“Great location!”
Reviewed March 20, 2009

We stayed in Lyon for 2 nights, and this hotel was in the perfect location to get the most out of our stay. It was less than 5 min from the Metro (stop Bellecour - easy to get everywhere), 2 stops from the train station, and less than 10 min walk from Old Lyon (Vieux Lyon). Across from Place Bellecour are streets leading toward Hotel de Ville area, filled with restaurants and great shopping! Our hotel's address, Rue Victor Hugo, is another great street itself - many shops, boulangeries and sandwich places. Our room was on 2nd floor, and there were some street noises in the middle of night, so if you are a light sleeper, request an upper-floor room! The room was very spacious and clean. You could see some wear-and-tear in the corners and walls, but not enough to bother us. Free WiFi, flat-screen tv, frige, large closet. A good deal for 81 euros/night. The best part was really the location!

Travelled around France during Aug08, staying many hotels, This was definately one of the best., a brillant room, really helpful staff, in a brillinat location. Breakfast was probably average, but I'd forgive it at this price, I would highly recommend it.

  • Liked — price, location, staff and room
  • Disliked — no parking, but even the local car park is 2 mins away and you can drop your luggage at the door.

We stayed 2 nights In Nov 2008. We are a family of 3. We got a room with a double bed and a single for our son. The room was simple and clean. No frills but I did not expect any. I think it was a good value for what we paid. When I was looking for hotels this seemed the best bang for the buck. The chain hotels were more than 2.5 times what we paid. Great Location , short walk to the old town and located on a street which is primarily a walking street, had a downtown disney feel on the street. The hotel did have a computer you could access the internet for free. Breakfast was 7 euro per person and we did not try it. There was a boulangerie about 50 yards to the left from the front door. We got great pastries, coffee etc. We paid 6-7 euro in Lyon for the same we paid 23 euro in Paris for the 3 of us. If I go back to Lyon I would stay at this hotel again.

A really good value hotel right in the heart of Lyon and handy for most sights. Old town only about 5-10 mins by foot. We had a triple room as I had taken my 17 year old son along on the trip and the room turned out to be spacious and airy. Only mild downside was that directions were a little complicated when travelling by car and I'd suggest they direct car travellers to the nearest parking (200 metres or so), rather than the hotel which is on a pedestrianised street. Breakfast more than adequate with a selection of cooked and cold items. Staff friendly and accommodating. Really couldn't have asked for better value for money.

My wife and I stayed here for one night only upon our arrival in France, having booked this hotel on-line based on Trip-Advisor ratings. The hotel is a long walk with your luggage from the main train station where the airport shuttle bus drops you, but it is not complicated. The night clerk was waiting for us and was very friendly. The hotel is an older style building and has an elevator. Our room was satisfactory and the bathroom was clean and well appointed. The in-room fridge was well stocked but pricey. The staff in the morning were very helpful and helped us pick up our rental car.

  • Liked — Staff and price.
  • Disliked — Few nearby restaurants.

Stayed in this 3 star hotel for two nights and enjoyed our stay very much, the place was clean, decent bathroom, only problem was the bathtub didn't have a shower curtain only a partial glass door so water would splash out onto the floor. There was enough space for the three of us girls two double beds plus a pull out bed on the wall, the location was excellent, right on rue Victor hugo close to shopping and the metro also the hotel offered a breakfast for about 7 euros but we didn't take the option instead we decided to eat at one of the bakeries close to the hotel. The staff was pleasant, provided us with a city map, free Wi-fi and computer access on the main floor.

The hotel is well located in a main pedestrianised street in the centre of Lyon. About 5-10 minutes walk from the main airport bus drop off.

Our room was small, but clean, well furnished and the bathroom was good. A proper bath, with shower over and pretty new looking.

The hotel breakfast was a buffet style in a small dining room in the hotel and was pretty good value.

The lobby had a PC with free internet access.

The price we paid for a double room with bath was 78 euros a night, which is really excellent value I feel, considering the hotel's location and the standard of the room and bathroom. OK, so it's not the Ritz but for that price hotel's can be quite scabby! But no La Residence! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone coming to visit Lyon.
