This hotel is pleasant enough if you are on a very tight budget and do not plan on spending any time indoors. Worthy of a 3 star rating but no more. Good points - Staff friendly, rooms clean with good in room facilities (tea/coffee, shampoo, hairdryer, tv), free wifi. Bad points - rooms only large enough for one person (so long as they are not claustrophobic) awkward and tiny elevator, smell in the room, noise from the main road.

Over all the hotel is of an acceptable standard, suited to individual business travellers on a budget.

This is your typical mercure hotel. Confortable but not luxurious.

Location is good for the train station and closed to 2 subway stations on different lines. It is not in the main tourist hub, but nothing a subway ride cant fix!

This is a charming hotel with clean, renovated, and very comfortable rooms. There is plenty of public parking in a lot across the street and the neighborhood has many wonderful restaurants. We were traveling with two children and were offered connecting rooms that shared a main entrance at the end of the hall. Once inside, a large foyer separated the two rooms and offered the flexibility of locking the main door and leaving the individual bedroom doors open. The layout of the rooms provided great privacy and an enormous amount of space--far superior to just having the standard one common doorway as in most hotels. Bathrooms were a great size, shower had fantastic water pressure and soaps/shampoos were excellent. The beds were super comfy and we enjoyed a great night sleep. Buffet breakfast in the morning was well stocked with varied offerings--all delicious--and waitstaff was on hand to serve beverages. The director of the hotel and reception staff were a delight. We look forward to our return to the Mercure Brotteaux.

Loved the clean, modern, simple design. Nothing unnecessary, like being on a ship.

Didn't like the awkward layout of the room, orange walls, aircon that didn't seem to work very well, if at all, internet with weak signal, cleaning ladies who didn't understand what a "do not disturb" sign meant and would walk into our room.

Loved the sweet, good looking desk staff, who were always very helpful and kind. One even gave us a kettle one night when my stomach was upset (all that fromage!) and I needed some tea. They and the design redeemed the place for me.

Location was good. You do have to walk through a tunnel to get to the main part of Lyon, but it felt pretty safe. The hotel is also in a less-touristed part of Lyon and I liked being a little off the beaten path. It's also convenient if you are going to rent a car and need to get on the autoroute. I didn't mind being on the autoroute so much, but since the aircon wasn't working it was very hot and we couldn't open the windows for too long because of the noise and the bugs that would come in.

If you were to stay here, I'd avoid it in summer and ask for a room at the back - I wish we switched our room, our stay would have been much more enjoyable.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back of the hotel

Plus: REALLY central next to many great restaurants, efficient if cold night reception, clean room even if small, efficient breakfast, quiet room (room #103, real double window)

Minus: intrigued how 2 can sleep in that tiny "queen size" bed (I'm traveling solo on business); smoking room even if asked for non-smoking (full-house night), surprisingly weak water pressure for shower (usu a strong point of Accor hotels)
