“Excellent superior rooms, breakfast not worth it though”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013 via mobile

Got a cheap deal (£72) and only £5 more to upgrade room. Definitely worth it. Big spacious room with good air con balcony.
Breakfast was included, but if it isn't I wouldn't pay for it as is quite basic.

While travelling round Europe we found a cheap deal on lastminute.com for a room in this Best Western and snapped it up.
This may explain why we were on one of the higher floors of the hotel in a room that was certainly not 4* - and although it was functional and clean, it was very basic.
The rest of the hotel was nice and the location is very good - easy walking distance from the station, and a relatively short walk into the centre of the city.
For what we needed the hotel for it was certainly enough, but if I was on holiday in Lyon and we had paid a full rate for the room I would be a little miffed.

This hotel is in a downtown area with easy access to the old city. I wouldn't recommend walking at night - make use of the tram which run past the front or there is a station a couple of hundred metres away. Also, access to a car park for €5 per night was good value.

My room was clean though small and dated. The bath had a shower attachment but no rail or curtain which was inconvenient.

The restaurant was 'closed for technical reasons' (a bit suspicious!) and there was little else in the area - particularlty on a Sunday night.

Buffet breakfast was in a basement room but had plenty of light as it opened out onto the garden at the back. Room was wallpapered with bright pink flowers - a real wake up! Good seletion of cereals, breads, meat & cheese etc. Some hot food available.

Good for a one night stay but not the best if you are heading to the airport early in the morning - allow an hour if driving (heavy traffic). Probably a better connection by public transport!

Beautiful hotel with very comfortable bed. Excellent bar and lounge and friendly staff. Rooms are a good size and well done. Breakfast is only ok for a 4 star hotel but everything else was excellent. Location is convenient for easy access by car.

We nearly cancelled because a previous review here said it was like the Bowery in New York. Rubbish. I have been to the Bowery and this is nowhere like it. We had no issues at all and we walked everywhere. We did take the tram as well and it stops right outside the hotel. You couldn't ask for a better service. The hotel is modern and very smart indeed. I would recommend the superior room .

The location is very good...mere metres from the tram stop and about 250m from the station where you could actually access all of Europe never mind Lyon. The hotel is warm with really excellent and friendly reception staff. The young man and girl were so, so helpful and couldn't do enough. Top marks!

Our room (I think a superior) was bright, spotless, roomy and with big glass doors to a small balcony. Unfortunately it was freezing! The bathroom was equally clean. Overall we were very pleased with the room and we slept very well in a big comfy clean bed.

Breakfast was one of the best we have had in all of France. Plenty of choice, fresh and delicious. The Asian lady was a charmer...smiling all the time, keeping an eye on us all, refilling the dishes and had a friendly word for her guests. A realm asset to the hotel. Sunday service wasn't nearly as good.

We would deffo stay here again. Overall 5 stars as it is a lovely, well run, friendly, good value (for us), clean hotel with excellent staff.

Lobby appeared really nice, cheap room was just that - a bit tacky. Asked for an upgrade and it cost 20 euros more for two nights. Room far better and standard just fine. We were not told about breakfast so did not have any on the first morning. Restaurant not open weekends. Bathroom clean and modern and bed crisp and clean. Mattress good. Booked through last minute . com but one should get the upgrade. Easy walk to restaurants, train and into centre of city. Staff at reception helpful.

Room Tip: Upgrade is essential. Don't know about pool and fitness centre

Positives - When you walk into the hotel you get a positive impression. The reception and bar is quite nice and to be fair to them the service was not bad throughout the trip.

Negatives - The room was awful. Although it was clean, it was shabby and looked like nothing had been done to it in about a decade. The paint was chipped all along the skirting boards, the carpet was overdue for replacement and the bathroom, although clean, was in need of some work. No kettle, no iron, and no shower panel/curtain. The walls are paper thin too. I am a heavy sleeper but I found the noise of the neighbouring bathrooms and conversations in the hallways too much. At breakfast there is a reasonable selection but the quality of some of the items was questionable. The cut fruit looked about a week old, but the coffee was good.

Aside from the room, the location is the main thing letting this place down. Bellacour and other areas is only about 15/20 minutes walk away but to get there you have to either go through a train station or one of a number of tunnels to get past the train tracks which split the peninsula. At night this is a bit unnerving. I would not recommend it and I certainly will not be staying there again. When I booked I understood it was three star and I was disgusted to find out it is actually a four star.
