“Doggy Holiday Hotel”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

Nice comfortable hotel near river and Ballecour Square. The staff were really excellent, concierge desk staff a credit. I was surprised by the number of clipped and leashed dogs in the hotel staying as guests, I guess they use the bathroom facilities as well! Was hoping to see a dog fight in the lobby but missed out.

Upon arrival we went to our standard room. This could not be called a room. More a shoe box. After complaining and agreeing to pay more, we were given a bigger shoe box. On a floor where the carpets were smelly and the interior felt years and years out of date.
Overall this is a Novotel with Sofitel in desperate need of TLC. Tender Loving Care.
I did complain and received a nice message back: "Apologies and hope you will give us a try next time".
This is not a 5 star hotel by any means. The only plus point is the location.
No I won't go back.

Room Tip: check out room before you go there with all your luggage!!!!! If you want to sleep with open windows...

We stayed here for 3 nights recently, and have to admit the hotel is not as great as we expected given all the excellent reviews on tripadvisor. The one thing we cannot fault in the least is the staff - who were all incredibly pleasant, friendly, and helpful.

The free wifi in-room was unreliable, turning off and on frequently. Although it was free, I feel like a certain standard of functionality should be maintained. If the internet cannot reliably be offered for free, they should consider only offering paid options.

We thought the parking at 24 euros/day was excessive though it may very well be competitively priced for the area.

As for the hotel itself, it certainly has a very 70s style to it (though you can tell it's been renovated to look that way). The perfumed lobby was pretty strong - the staff must go home with headaches every day after a day of full immersion in it.

The drinks in the mini bar (water, juice, coke) were free - a nice touch.

We had an issue with housekeeping one day where the staff entered our room only to refill the mini bar and did not make the bed/clean the garbage can/refresh the towels. We had been out of the room from 8:30am-3:30pm, so it's not as if the staff did not have an opportunity to clean. We did call the front desk, who sent a maid up to clean the room properly.

There also seemed to be some form of miscommunication with the room service staff who mistakenly knocked on our door and attempted to enter 2/3 nights between 9:45 and 10pm.

Excellent hotel in a great location. Within walking distance of all the main attractions and the metro was an easy few minutes walk away.

We were upgraded to a Junior Suite (Room No. 203 on the 2nd floor) with river view which was excellent. The room was spacious and comfortable and we had the most beautiful complimentary chocolates waiting for us in the room.

Nevertheless, if you looked more closely you could see that some of the furnishings and fittings were quite worn and ragged such as the carpet, blinds, etc. and the sofa was actually a sofa bed and the cushions would keep sliding off the sofa the longer you sat in them. Also, although there was a coffee machine there were no tea making facilities.

Otherwise, it was a very pleasant stay and the staff were great. We would definitely go back again the next time we are in Lyon.

We stayed here as part of an after package with Tauck tours. We were very pleased with the hotel. The location was perfect for us - by the river and close to the square, shops and restaurants.

The hotel is upscale and modern and has a strong business clientele. Rooms are on the larger side and the bathrooms are very spacious. You may want to try and get a room with a view. We had a partial view of the river which was nice.

The concierge staff was wonderful, especially Sebastien. He secured a reservation for us at a Paul Bocuse restaurant that was fully booked, and most importantly he untangled some airline reservation issues that were complicated. He took away all of our stress and we got a good night's sleep before our early morning departure.

I actually rate this hotel a 4.5. Quite nice!
