We just spent a few days in Lyon and enjoyed staying at the Globe et Cecil. The staff was very kind, the breakfast good, and the hotel was clean and comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent. It is within walking distance of just about everything.
I would say that the decor needs a bit of a refresh but I would return to the hotel.

Room Tip: We were in room 91 which was large and comfortable.

We expected a comfortable hotel in the heart of Lyon as we had gone by many Rick Steves' recommendations in my travels and they had been accurate. This one was not. First, the hotel is very difficult to find and park around and even though I had emailed the hotel for parking directions, they still didn't let me know just how difficult it would be. Second, while Sandrine was very helpful and gave us a great place to eat, her coworker was rude and actually complained about the size of our baggage (one bag each for three weeks isn't usually a light one), especially since we attempted to do it ourselves in the first place. Third, the city had a major event the next day which forced the closing of the very street we were on! No one said a word to us about this and it forced us to leave the city very early and almost were not able to get our car out of the public parking spot we were forced to use. (We had to ask a policeman to open a barrier to drive out.) Finally our room was hot, and our toilet had two spiders and spiderwebs in it. Very disappointing.

Room Tip: Check your room first before agreeing to take the key. It sounds like some rooms are very nice whil...

Another Rick Steves recommendation, spot on! Can not be anymore centrally located. Walking distance to all shopping & restaurants. Front desk more than helpful, quick to accommodate us.We had a corner room#11,3 large windows, fireplace in bedroom & huge bath with separate tub & shower. Breakfast was included and very delicious, fresh fruit, meats, cheese, yogurt, cereals, pastries and finally cafe au lait served in separate pots of coffee/milk in china cups!!! TV only French channels, free wifi. We had a car- hotel sent us to a close by public but secure lot,22 euro/day( cheapest in area).

A typical old building right in the center of Lyon in the area of the city among the two rivers.
The framework is stylish, with warm colors for the interiors (red/orange shifted) and some design here and there. Some refresh would be ok for the stairways where paint peels off the walls (not ok for a 4 stars hotel). Rooms with very high ceilings and multiple large windows, all in style with the rest of the mainframe of the building. Sleep quality is ok since most of the windows are on the small street where the entrance of the hotel is, with little traffic. Bathroom spotless. Breakfast ok.
Staff, on average, kind. A big minus: no garage and no space to unload luggages (unless you are lucky a place is free in front of the hotel). Public parking nearby (Place Bellecour). Prices in the medium-high range for the category and the location.
Albeit an average experience, a good stylish solution in the center of Lyon.

Room Tip: high floor

My husband stayed here during a business trip. Once again, the entire stay was exceptional. He was impressed that each time dropping off and picking up the room key, the staff remembered him and greeted him by name. As a single this time, the room was smaller than the one we had together. However, it was still neat, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was again nice.

I can't wait to travel to Lyon with him again so we can stay here together. With its central location and vintage decor, it's a favorite!

Room Tip: If it's two of you, ask for a bigger room. If you sleep with the windows closed, any room is a g...

A nice hotel with a good location if you want to spurge into luxury shopping. Big brands shopping is walking distance.
Old Town is about 10mins walk. It is especially enjoyable during the morning weekends where short walk across the river where you will find weekend markets near the bridge.
When we were there on 23/12/2012, there was a open market selling Christmas items, flowers, food etc.

Hotel room was neat & clean. Nice bathrooms too. Reception lady was really helpful & kind.
Parking is a walking distance but not a problem at all.

Reccomended!

Room Tip: If you need hot water for tea or coffee, the reception can arrange a flash of hot water for you.

Stayed 2 nights in this centrally located hotel recently on a business trip. The welcome at the reception was friendly and efficient enough. But that really was the only highlight in my opinion. The pokey lift was hardly large enough to hold me an my luggage (I admit I had two big suitcases). And my room at the end of a tiny corridor was truly awful. It was ridiculously small, poorly furnished, with a dreadful bathroom. The sliding bathroom door was almost impossible to open or close and the only place to hang my clothes was in a dreadful, cheap looking cupboard stuck in the bathroom. Simply awful. A meagre breakfast was served on ready made up, rationed trays with a tiny buffet on the side. Atmospheric it was not... And the price was simply outrageous. I won't be staying there again.
