Museum is tucked away in a side street but is worth popping into if you are in the area. It gives a brief history of the silk making tradition

The very inexpensive tour is not to be missed, and includes a demonstration of actual weaving on a Jacquard loom (even if you only do the first part of the tour, which is given in both French and English; the rest of the tour is only in French so didn't take it and don't know what it showed). Wikipedia is wrong about there only being these in private locations. The shop has very nice scarves, etc., reasonably priced. For free you can wander around to see other old looms (actual and models)--even one that used punched cards rather than paper.

This museum is not very known, and was recommended to us by a friend that lives in Lyon. It was an unique experience: the tell the history of silk, clothes fabrication, design of old pieces of decoration in tissue. A unique one! The only drawback is that most of the explanations are given in french. Could not understand most of it, BUT it still worth. A unique opportunity to see different old loom machines to work and compare them.

We thought that this silk weaving museum would be interesting -- but it wasn't really. They could have done so much more.

More of a silk industry promotion but does contain a number of small interesting historical exhibits on relating to the Lyon silk industry.
