Loved the shop of the museum, but since I really don't know a lot about textile I really hoped to learn stuff at this museum... that doens't seem to be the starting point in the philosophy of this museum. It is a big building, the collection has a lot space in which it is exposed, but in a really artsy way. Luckily enough they had an audioguide in English and they have documentation per room, but still it couln't tickle my imagination. Especially for kids I can imagine this museum to a bit boring.

Yes I have seen many beautiful examples of silk, cloth, textile, fabric... but I really still don't know what the significance was for Lyon and the labourers of the city (something to do with Napoleon ordering everybody to wear silk from Lyon, but how would he manage that?).

Left the museum feeling we 'had done something really 'cultural', bohemian but also elite'or something like that... We had the Lyon city card, so it was fine, but I think I wouldn't feel okay with it if we would have payed full admission... it really is quite expensive!

Admire and expect to be wowed by textiles of many centuries. An amazing retrospective of collectible textiles starting with 4th century Coptic pieces to 20th century French pieces. Great place to test your knowledge and learn more.

This is a museum you can skip unless your raison d'être is fabric and even if that were the case I probably would not recommend it. It is definitely not worth the 10 euros to enter. Visit the gift shop and spend the 10 euros there.

... you must see this museum. Full of furnitures and home decoration from the 18th century. The museum is not air-conditioned so it's very hot in the summer.

The fabric section obviously had a huge collection of fabrics but unless you read French it is very difficult to understand its significance. More importantly visiting the museum I gained no scence of the importance of fabrics, especially silk, to Lyon. I visited a silk museum in Okinawa some years ago that was much better at this. The decorative arts section had a beautiful collection of furniture, largely arranged in representive rooms from various periods. Much easier to understand without English labels, but probably of most interest to antique enthusiasts. One for those with specialist interests.
