“Home of the jacquard looms and silk weaving factories”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

The weavers of Lyon moved up the Croix Rousse Hill from the old town when the large Jacquard looms were introduced, and couldn't fit into the old houses (not enough height!). This area still houses some traditional silk weaving factories, with original looms and they give tours and demonstrations - another must do in Lyon!

“Nice place but not very lively”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

The Croix-Rousse is a nice place with many restaurant but I think that it is less lively then other districts.
But overall it's a place to visit if you past by Lyon.

“Be Ready To Climb a Bit”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

We did one of the walking tours from the Guide Michelin. Even on a rainy day, it was well worth it. A very mixed and interesting neighborhood with a lot of history.

“The different city uphill”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

It is a nice and different part of the city, with some steep streets. To go there you have to go up walking by long stairways or by metro. There is a roman amphiteatre ruins. The “trompe l'oeil” large mural painting called Le Mur des Canuts is there, but the painting is not so impressive, the Les Fresque des Lyonnais painting is located close to the Saone river and is a bit more interesting, both are a curious but overrated and not unmissable attraction.

“Using the T.I. audio tour”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

We used the Tourist Info rental audio tour, which takes you to a lot of cool spots. They really need a map to go with it, though - we got mixed up a few times (there are two #9's on one street and the second one leads to the traboule, for example). The Maison des Canuts - the silkweaver's museum - is worth the detour. Follow the street signs to find it.
