Having visited Notre Dame in Paris and the ancient Roman ruins of the city in Rome, my wife and I were very excited about jumping on the Lyon city bus and exploring the remains of a Roman Theatre on our way up the hill to the absolutely stunning Basilique standing atop of Lyon. When we got there-in beautiful weather- we were greeted with amazing views across the whole city and an absolutely stunning facade of the cathedral itself, easily comparable to anything visited in Paris or beyond. The interior is breathtaking, with intricate mosaic floors and wall pieces alongside beautiful statues and stained glass windows. The views outside are worth the trip alone. A breathtaking visit and walking back down to the old town is a relaxing event in itself. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
