“Scenic and historic site”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

Elaborately decorated interior, great view of Lyon from grounds. Very close to Roman ruins. Ride up the incline rail was very enjoyable. Walk down the path/steps was also pleasant and scenic.

“A must see”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

A place to visi absolutely. The church has a kind of decoration which leave without words. It is a mix of blu, gold and violet ablosultely stunning. The atmosphere is ideal for persons who would pray and remain with their own thoughts. Catholic or not a must see place.

“Just another Church”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

If you like old Churches, it's one of the 'normal' ones (as opposed to one of the ones you really must see), if you don't like old Churches then you'll be bored in 3 minutes flat.

Should you go - up to you ...

“Breathtaking !!”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

The Basilica itself is very beautiful and peaceful located strategically on a hill and offering a breathtaking view of the entire Lyon city. We took the Fournier while going up to the Basilica but came down the hill walking and exploring the city's narrow lanes. An absolute place to visit in Lyon.

“Spiritually inspiring and uplifting experience.”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

This basilica stands on the hill commanding the view of Lyon with its two rivers Rhone and Saone. We can either walk up the hill to the chapelle of Virgin Mary and also the Virgin of Fourviere as the hill is locally known. There is a lovely festival of lights fete des lumieres on 8th Dec. Other option is to take a funicular up to the hill. Ticket for the funicular is part of the common Lyon transport system, so we need not spend extra. The metro station is Vieux Lyon and we can take the funicular directly from the metro station.
