“Wonderful both inside and out”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

Easy to reach by the funicular, certainly one of the best Basilique's we have visited and free to enter.

“"over the top" in decoration. yet surprisingly beautiful mosaics”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

this is a late 19th century , rather than a Gothic church, but the goldwork and ceramics in the mosaic murals are quite stunning. Take the Fanicula up, and walk down (some 200 steps, or a narrow road) for best views.

“Beautiful Church”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

The best way to arrive at this church is via the Funniculaire, just across the river from the center of town. The church was completed in the latter part of the 19th century and is as beautiful as any cathedral you will visit in France. Be sure to not miss the church directly beneath the mail sanctuary of the Basilica. It contains a mosaic depicting the story of Saint Joseph, and it is exquisite. The views across Lyon are reminiscent of the views of Paris from the Basilica de Sacre Coeur, but perhaps better.

“Beautiful, simply beautiful”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

The details of this magnificent church cannot be missed. Statues, windows, golden ceiling, marble floors, tile work: all are breathtaking. Don’t miss the downstairs crypt. The view from the courtyard is also spectacular.

“Well worth the climb (or the bus ride!)”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Not everyone's cup of tea apparently (guide books will also tell you about the antagonism caused when it was built). We thought it was beautiful though, and liked the riot of different styles of art and architecture running wild all over the building. We also caught the end of Sunday morning mass and THE most beautiful Ave Maria. The composer was Marc Henriq de Beziers and it isn't recorded yet....but remember that name!
