“Fabulous area to wander around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

Very picturesque, beautiful St. Jean Cathedrale and Notre Dame basilica. It's good to experience the funicular on the way up but a nice walk down afterwards. Also see the Roman amphitheatre

“A taste of medieval life”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

We stayed in vieux Lyon for a week. There is a fair bit of tourist activity, but it is as tasteful as possible, and luckily we were there in November so it wasn't too crowded. There are numerous bouchons of varying quality, as well as art galléries and gif t shops, but also a muséum of Lyonnaise history worth a look. Further afirld the Presqu'ilse is accessible by a number of bridges and offers more restaurants and upmarket shopping. Lyon has a bus system; avoid driving if possible but have a functioning Klaxon if you have to.

“good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

Many excellent restaurants, also in caves. Traditional fare which for some visitors could be a little exotic, e.g. intestines. Narrow streets, old buildings. Parking easy underground.

Don't miss the cathedral and try the small French restaurants. You will also find small boutiques with nice stuff.

“Historic centre but still lived in”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

Vieux Lyon is the historic centre and clearly a tourist destination, but it is also a place that young people, families and some older people still live. There are two main streets through the old town, with several passageways (called traboules) between the two streets. The traboules are marked with a sign - and open to public to walk through and see the interiour courtyards. You may also see locals going in or out of their apartments. There are numerous boutiques and bouchon restaurants. There are also a few ateliers with artisans producing silk products. It is easy walking despite the cobblestones as it is fairly flat.
