“Worth several visits”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

We had dinner here our first night in Lyon so were very tired from @ 30 hour trip from our home to here. Server spoke excellent English taking that brain work from us. We enjoyed an addictively good hazelnut liquor while deciding on dinner choices. My wife started with a veloute from heaven-perfect cream base with lardon and large, tender scallops-I tasted and could have made a meal of just that and their great country bread. Monk fish next, also yummy. I devoured a delightful pan fried cod, garlic potatoes (yum) and a salad. A good white wine went well with our fishes. We finished with a fluffy chocolate/almond dessert. Tables not too crowded and very clean look to the place. Worthy of your business.

“Really nice food in a pleasant room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

We had a really good meal here at what we regard as a reasonable price for the city centre. The menu went well beyond the traditional Lyon specialities, good though these can be. A cut above the popular places on rue des Marronniers nearby. Handy for the local theatres too.

“Very good food & service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

We ate at Brasserie Francotte twice during our recent stay in Lyon, initially because it was a short walk from where we were staying and was recommended by our hotel. We went back because we enjoyed it so much. Staff were helpful and welcoming, and spoke English. The food was of good quality ... perhaps a little pricey, but very good. Service is good. Some very nice choices on the menu. Definitely worth trying if you are in Lyon.

“Typical Lyon fare - few lighter options on the menu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Had dinner here one very warm evening, and was looking for something lighter - salad, grilled fish, etc... but the dishes were all relatively heavy. Salmon was nice, but had a lot of sauce, and the vegetables were over-cooked and not too tasty. Not bad, but nothing special. They did, though, let me order just plain strawberries for dessert (instead of the whole creamy strawberry concoction which was on the menu)

“Hard to go wrong, dinner or breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

Two of us arrived early evening in Lyon after a long day travelling, and wanting to eat early. Our hotel recommended the 'restaurant strip' at Rue Des Marronniers, but luckily for us we stumbled across this restaurant on the way, just across from Theatre Celestine. Both the decor and menu looked good and there were free tables as we were early, so we had dinner here. We didn't realise at the time, but Francotte has a long pedigree of fine chefs, and this showed in the meals we had. We shared a straightforward whitebait entree, then mains of scallops and scampi with goat cheese crepes and olive crusted steak and garlic cream. We shared dessert and had wine by the glass, including an aperitif, from a small but adequate selection. Our meals were well-presented, flavoursome and 'fresh' and light rather than traditional Lyonnaise that can be quite heavy. Service was friendly, helful where our French failed us, efficient and unobtrusive. Prices were moderate and, for the quality, good value (well under Eur 100 including wine). We rated this one of our best meals in a month of touring in France. We were so impressed that later in the week, when we wanted to escape our nearby hotel for breakfast, we headed for Francotte. The kind attention and good humour we received as we struggled with our French and their English helped make our stay in Lyon memorable. The abundant breakfast of fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, croissant and bread/spreads and a bowl or two of coffee was memorable and inexpensive.
