Hotel De Paris
Ranked #152 of 194 Hotels in Lyon
Reviewed September 11, 2012

We spent one night here on a city trip to Lyon. The location is in the heart of the old city so ideal for our purposes of a quick hit of the Lyon vibe. In one minutes' walk you are in the middle of the action. The hotel itself is quite modern and the room was decent. It wasn't luxury, but was more than just functional. It was actually pretty cool, with a reggae-themed toilet seat and and old, white radiator in the room giving it more atmosphere than a chain hotel. We didn't do breakfast here because there are so many cafés around. The breakfast room didn't look particulary inviting either, was pretty functional. Parking in Lyon city parking garages is around 28 euros a day and the hotel doesn't have its own parking garage so you have to use public garages. The receptionists were really helpful and gave restaurant recommendations.

Overall, a good hotel for a city trip, i would recommend it and would stay there again. I'm rating it very good because of the killer location and decent price, however be aware the quality of the room was more like average-to-good and if you are looking for plush luxury this probably isn't the right place. Have fun

The hotel is situated in a great position, near the river and main thoroughfares also near good and varied restaurants.

However, the room I stayed in although labelled 'classic' meant for me that no works had been done on it for a while. Waste outlet plugs missing, tops of cupds dusty, fittings old. There was no shower curtain on the bath.

As to the breakfast for which they have the audacity to charge extra, consisted of 1 croissant, 1 roll, some butter and jam and tea or coffee and a glass of juice. The jam ladled out of a tin on one morning was clearly from the previous morning with the spoon sticky. When I ran a small guest house in London buffet breakfast was all part of the service, included, no extra charge, if you wanted it, it was there, if not you visited one of many local restaurants for a 'full English'.

The carpet on the stairs was dirty and threadbare in places with rubber nosings that were falling off and positively dangerous. Only one of the windows opened the other had been painted shut.

The new owner is a nice friendly guy who tries to be helpful but the place needs more work. So my apologies to him as I left at the weekend and didn't get a chance to say cheerio and good luck.

I still enjoyed my stay and was made to feel welcome and would go again as I prefer small friendly personal places to the big impersonal chain hotels.

Rates were reasonable for what I got I suppose but I probably wont get the chance to go back again as there are other cities to explore.

Room Tip: If you have the chance ask for one of the modernised rooms.

Dear Abriwin,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience, althought we are very sorry that it wasn't the best one ever...
We value our customers comments as they help us improve our service. You'll be happy to hear that the flooring of the stairs and the rubber nosing have been replaced this summer.

Thank you again for staying with us.
We wish you many more great trips, as you seem to enjoy travelling a lot...

Well located. Art deco style for a little cozy hotel in the centre Lyon. Price is good and stores and good restaurants are all around. Breakfast is good, specially the croissants. Rooms are austere and there's no enough water pressure for a good shower.

We were only a night here and knew not to expect opulence -it is a 3 star after all - in fact it was perfect for us. We stayed in the cosy room and yes it was small, and a little run down, but for the price it was great for us. The location is very central, close to vieux Lyon and in the middle of presqu'isle so I wouldn't hesitate. I think you would be well served in summer to pick a quiet room as some open onto the street and with no air con, it could be uncomfortable battle between heat and noise,
All up no complaints! Staff were lovely and extremely helpful.

Room Tip: Quiet room.

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel de Paris. Our "Cosy" room was a reasonable size with a good size bathroom with bath. Larger rooms are available for a few more Euros. The bright decor is fun and we had 2 Picasso prints on the walls.
The hotel was a very comfortable place place to be around, especially for such a small place. The lounge has a big selection of magazines and newspapers and free internet/wifi. The location is perfect, moments from the Beaux Arts museum, the main shopping streets and the banks of the Saone, with Vieux Lyon and Croix Rousse both a short walk away. There is a good range of bars and restaurants nearby to suit all budgets and tastes.
I'd highly recommend this hotel as really good value for a central, unpretentious stay in Lyon.

Stayed two nights here on our way down to the Med. A very interesting hotel with retro decor and a fantastic location close to all the attractions of this wonderful city. Lyon is famous as the gastronomic capital of France and there are so many ways to enjoy this. I can certainly recommend the Bouchons (local bistros serving regional food and wine), Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse (one of the really great French indoor food markets) and the Cafe de Broc on the corner near the hotel (look for the red and yellow chairs). The staff in the hotel spoke excellent English and were always very helpful and the hotel does have a lift! Parking (not with the hotel) is in one of the many excellent underground car parks in central Lyon and was reasonably priced (for a city) at 49 euros for two days. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a great experience in the centre of this fantastic city.

The room had a very sixties feeling to it, lots of space, big bathroom, bed ok. The bathroom had a bathtub with a hand shower but no door or shower curtain, meaning that it is possible to flood the place if not careful. Continental breakfast with good croissants and baguette. Good location in a calm street but very close to the old city and a block away from the townhall. One of the ladies at the reception desk brings her beautiful cat Leo to work and he just lightens up the place. Down side: we arrived on a Sunday and the room had just been painted so the smell was strong, but of course that means the hotel is kept in good shape. The problem was that during the painting I guess the bathroom door had some problem and it wouldn't close. We called the reception desk and someone came to check but not fix it, as the hotel was full they didn't propose another room and they said they couldn't do anything about it because the person responsible was not available on Sundays. But we stayed for almost a week and the door wasn't fixed. We discovered that it is very important to leave the key at the reception desk because this is how they know the room is empty and can come and clean it. After the first night we left without leaving the key and we came back in the evening to find the room just as we had left it. When we called the reception desk the person asked us first of we had left the room long enough and then that as we were staying for more than one night the room would not be fixed every day, very odd explanation we thought but then we
discovered we had to leave the key. Overall good experience.

We indeed have a few habits that should probably be reviewed, such as the key story... We understand that it can be a problem so no matter what ,we now go and check if you need anything between 12 and 2pm if you are still resting in your room.
Thank you again for your undertanding and your positive attitude !
