My boyfriend and I spent two nights at Hotel Splendid and thought the value was excellent for the money. The hotel appeared to be recently renovated and was fresh and clean. The pictures on this website do not show its modernization. We liked the bright colors and cheeriness of our room and the breakfast room.

The desk staff was helpful, especially the friendly man who worked in the morning, and everyone spoke English. We got a great bed and breakfast rate on Booking.com for a double room and breakfast for two for only 69 euros per night. We enjoyed the more than adequate breakfast buffet that included baguettes, cheese, meat, cereals, milk, juice, fruit, yogurt, jam, and pastries. The desk attendant also offered us a hot beverage every morning.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Grenoble and looking for a good value.

We spent one night in Grenoble after a skiing holiday in the alps and we had previously booked online to stay the Splendid Hotel based on its price and location in the town.

The hotel room itself was relatively simple, but clean and included a television and wireless internet. The beds were clean and comfortable and we had a balcony which overlooked a garden. There also seemed to be off-street parking for those with car rental. The only negative was that the shower head holder was broken, meaning the shower was jetting water halfway down my back instead of on my head.

Buffet breakfast in the morning for 6 Euros (£4) was again basic, but nice including an assortment of cakes and croissants, cereals, yoghurt's and hot drinks.

What really made this hotel stand out was how friendly and helpful the staff were. From checking in and helping us navigate the town to providing guidance as to how to get online using the wireless internet, the staff were great. Stupidly we woke up to the sound of our own alarms, to find out at breakfast that the clocks had moved forward an hour due to summer time coming into effect, and this meant we had missed our transfer bus. This was our own fault as I actually noticed the clock in the reception area was an hour fast before going to bed. The young lady at the front desk was extremely helpful in finding us alternative arrangements and saved us from missing our flights and paying for a rip off taxi. Thank you very much!!!

If your looking for somewhere to stay on a budget, I can easily recommend the Splendid Hotel as a very nice place to stay.

staff v. pleasant and rooms have adequate shower etc and wireless internet but the dreadful brown and orange decor will cause you to slit your wrists if you have to stay here more than one night. If you are colour blind the hotel is probably great but we felt that 75 euro is too much for this.

Stayed here for 2 weeks on business. Staff at reception friendly and helpful on arrival. Shown to my room along a dark, poorly lit corridor, complete with resident dog & cat which I nearly tripped over several times! Everything about the place needs a good makeover - well and truly overdue.

The first week I had a room with double bed and bath but no shower. There was an A/C controller on the wall which seemed to be redundant - not least because of the lack of a ventilator outlet anywhere in the room that I could see.

Second week the room was bigger, however immovable shutters over the windows meant there was NO natural light at any time in the room. The bed had been pulled to the middle of the floor away from a large damp patch on the wall behind it where the paint & plaster were peeling off the walls onto the floor. In fact it was not even a proper bed, but an uncomfortable camp-style bed.

The breakfast provided is very basic - bread rolls, nasty (not fresh) croissants, decaying apples and some yoghurts etc.. If you want a slice of ham it is an extra charge!!!!

WiFi service constantly going up and down and very slow at the best of times.

I would not recommend staying here. It is cheap, but there are very obvious reasons for that!

We enjoyed our stay at the Spendid, I have always wanted to stay at a hotel called that.

The location is good, there is a car park, the rooms are pretty large and we found the staff to be helpful and friendly.

The decoration is strange it is true but there is one of those lifts thats tiny with very strage door arrangments. The hotel rambles around and has a nice little courtyard garden.

There is also a free internet connection for guests use. The breakfast was OK.

All in all a very French little hotel in France...just what we wanted!
