“Something Free”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

A free trip up and down this funiculare is an interesting way to pass an hour or two. The village of Neuvecelle is worth a look round if only to see how the other half lives. If time allows and you can manage a couple of miles round trip walk go to the neighbouring village of Milly where the viewpoint and café with cakes to die for are well worth the effort.

“A historical feeling, and free of charge”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

This small and authentic funicular offers, free of charge, a nice experience up to wonderful views over the lake of Geneva. It is possible to walk down, however I recommend to take the funicular for the way back too, as you may loose yourself a bit: the way down is not direct.

“An historic trip”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We enjoyed the sense of history evoked by the journey on this restored funicular from the Royal Hotel down to Evian centre stoping at a few stations on the way. Also a great way to get back up the very steep hills when you have been shopping or dining in Evian----- and it is free!

“Evian Funicular”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

All funiculars appear to have one unique feature. This one has 4 intermediate stations.
The lower station is awkward to find, tucked away in a back street below the main pedestrianised shopping street. It is worth seeking out. And it's free! Closed for many years, but now refurbished and regarded as a national treasure. The journey is about 10 minutes and is underground for the first 100m or so, but then climbs steeply to the top station (a very Edwardian affair). In season (but not September) there is a cafe at the top, otherwise walk up towards the village of Neuvecelle where there is a restaurant and baker where snacks can be had. The views over lake Geneva are spectacular.
