“There's a reason L'Oustalet is ranked amongst Chamonix's finest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

We stayed at L'Oustalet for 3 nights in March and LOVED it. There's a reason this place is rated amongst the top 5 in Chamonix. The lovely owners were very friendly and helpful (restaurant reservations, ski recommendations, calling around for guides, etc.) and the hotel itself is charming. Our room (on the top floor) looked out over Mont Blanc, and the wood-paneled walls made it feel cozy and alpine. The little cafe/teahouse on the first floor was a great spot for a light lunch on my day off from the slopes. We also loved the hot tub and sauna in the basement--a real treat! We thought this place was a great value and most definitely would recommend it!

We have just stayed at the Oustalet for a short break weekend organised by Ski Weekend. The hotel is very welcoming and went out of their way to be helpful including giving us a room to shower and change in after our last day's skiing.

The rooms are cosy with wood framing and great heating (we had to have the balcony door open at night. Plenty of space and good quality warm shower/bath. The beds can be twins or "large" doubles. They also have separate toilets which is quite helpful. Since most of the rooms face onto the garden and the hotel is not in the "centre" of town it is quite quiet for a good night's sleep. The boot room has ski racks and boot warmers so no fear of stiff boots in the morning.

Nice "alpine" breakfast with some of the best stewed fruit I have had and proper hot chocolate. The bar is also a nice place to relax in the evening with an interesting selection of sweets (deserts) on offer to go with your grand cafe au lait.

Locaiton - just around the corner from the Aiguille du Midi lift (if that's your thing) and 5 mins walk from the Chamonix Sud bus station which has frequent buses to the Brevents and Montets ski areas. Parking available for hire cars. It's about a 5-10 minute walk to most parts of Chamonix.

Room Tip: Most rooms face on to the garden and have a balcony. Larger balconies on the 2nd and third floors a...

Stayed there for 2 nights (26-28/3/2013).
When we got to the hotel we were welcomed with a warm smile that is a reflect of the warm atmosphere of this hotel.,You fell at home from the minute you walk in.
They didnt have any double rooms available so we got a family room.
A great room with a warm decor.Very comfortable beds and a spotless specious bathroom.
Very close to town center(3-4 min walk).
Very lovely and helpfull staff with great knowledge of the area.
Ample space for parking and its free!
Can only imagene how graet it must be also in the summer time with the big garden and the swimingpool.
We felt so sorry to leave and cant wait to return back.

We are now on day 6 of 7 nights at the oustelet. The staff is exceedingly helpful right down to making restaurant reservations and checking ski conditions. The roo s are very well laid out. Our double actually had a third bed built in to an alcove which we used for luggage but there was a closet for each bed, plus Storgae under the tv, and two long shelves above the beds. On a ski trip you need Storgae and shelf space for all your stuff and there was plenty. Pillows are very good. Beds a bit stiff. Decks on the south side give you views of both Mont Blanc but the Brevent ski area. Ski lockers actually lock and ski room has boot heaters. Breakfast is not included but was quite ample though it never changes from day to day. Always, scrambled eggs, two cheeses, two meats, fresh breads and perfect little croissants. Cereal, juices, coffe. Etc. it is 7 minute walk to the bus stop and about the same to town center

Delightful family run hotel with traditional timber decoration. The yummy buffet breakfast including homemade goods. Hot tub, steam room and sauna in basement for private booking. Short walk to restaurants and shops. Lovely experience from start to finish.

We had 4 nights here, booking late into the school holiday period.
Our room was more spacious than expected, with plenty of hanging space.
Traditional timber decor, and very fiendly staff - especially Agnes.
We did find the room on the warm side, and there was no bar fridge (though we had a fridge/freezer outside on our balcony).
About 5 mins walk to the Chamonix Sud bus depot for transfers to the ski areas.
I'd certainly recommend this place to friends & family.

Room Tip: Our room was for 2, but it had a single bunk - this, with it's wardrobe - added extra storage sp...

Really liked the hotel & staff. It is a solid 3* hotel. Clean, great location, comfortable beds& good room layout. The breakfast is not included in the room price......a bit expensive, but had all the main items on the buffett table. There is a tea room in the hotel serving lovely cakes and you can enjoy these infront of the fireplace. Ski Room is bright and very functional. Location is good...4mins walk to town centre and right next to the Aguille du Midi Cable Car. Chamonix the ski areas are very spread out.
Unfortunately, during our stay hotel experience a breakdown of the hotwater system. They gave us a minimal discount... but it was not nice to have this experience. I doubt however if you stay it would happen again.

Room Tip: room facing Mont Blanc would be nice
