“Excellent food and atmosphere at good prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2012

We went last week to Chamonix and we have been very fortunate to eat at Le café de l'Arve.

All of their dishes and wine are "local" i.e. coming from less than an hour away. Despite or maybe because of this, the food tasted absolutely great and the wines that came with it were equally excellent (especially a bottle of Johannisberg from the nearby Swiss region of Valais)
Our menu was at 29 € with 3 dishes + cheese.

“Good food, average service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2012

A bib gourmand restaurant. Lunch for 2 table d'hote, midweek. Restaurant warm and inviting. Menu not too inspirational. Cold meats appetizer just cut charcouterie, nothing else. Good mushroom soop inter. Mains very tasty, full flavors. Only one proprietor serving 6 occupied tables made it too slow.

“Excellent French food, locally sourced; great value fixed price lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2011

The €17 fixed price lunch (main and dessert) was wonderful value. We returned two days later for a more expensive dinner (€ 55 per person for three courses and a bottle of wine). The service is classical and very attentive.
We also ate at the Petite Kitchen, which is rated no. 1 on tripadvisor. My wife preferred the Petite Kitchen; I preferred the Café de l'Arve, so overall we'll rate them equally good.

“Excellent local produce cooked very well.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2011

The cuisine is absolutely delicious; The chef uses local products, changes the menu depending on what is available, the food always has a little twist that you won't find anywhere else, and the pricing is also very good. Service is also nice. Only down part, the atmosphere could be improved...

“Excellent local specialties”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2010

Excellent specialties from the region, for lunch and dinner. Very reasonable prices. Try the Menu des trois Vallées (4-5 courses, 35 euro). Nicely matching wine arrangement.
Very friendly people. Modern, stylish interior, very attentive service, but yet quite informal.
Close to the centre, but not at a main street (so tourist traps would survive there).
This is the restaurant of Hotel De l'Arve. Entry through de main entrance of the hotel, or by the walkway along the river passing hotel Alpina.
