very good hotel for money. room we stayed in was tiny, but was very comfortable and clean and had most things you'd need. Let's face it - you are going to stay in Chamonix to spend time in a hotel room... The staff were very friendly and the parking is free, as well as being very close to the bus stops. There is a nice hotel and bar/restaurant (Hotel Vert) right next door. Despite another reviewer giving THIS hotel one star for the noise coming from ANOTHER hotel (??!!), we had no such problem and slept in silence through the night. It's also a short walk/drive out of the centre, which I consider to be a big advantage.

On the down side, there is no tea/coffee making (but I'm sure that's in fitting with the star rating) and the free wifi connection is very patchy, but again, these are minor points.

We would happily stay here again.

Rooms small and basic but very clean and warm would stay here again and recommend ... Only 50 metres from free ski bus ... Free parking and optional breakfast worth the 8.5 euros and starts at 7.30 am

Stayed over Christmas and was a great spot with affordable rates, particularly over the holidays. Was lovely Swiss styled rooms that put us immediately in an alpine setting. Room was good size. Shower awful but can't win them all.

Staff lovely and accommodating. Next door is a great, hip/younger hotel called Hotel Vert with a great snow shop (waxed and edged our boards for a tenner each, while we waited!!) , a shuttle service to the resorts if you just can't handle the terrible bus service, and the best restaurant we ate at in town (highly recommended!!). So both spots together, you have it all.

Breakfast at Des Lacs is optional for an extra 8.50 or so, great coffees in the cafe. Snow gear storage in a barn out back, and rumor is, free parking... Although we didn't drive so can't confirm this.

A bit far from town when walking home at night after the bus service, but nothing much can be done on that. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain view room opposite Le very (may be loud, their bar is right next door)

We stayed there in March 2010 (not the best season). On arrival we met some of the best hote staff ever, really freindly and helpful. We went to our room which was a family room as we were 3 fellas. There was a double and two single beds a good size bathroom and a tv. As we were on the top floor we had a view of the mountain behind and a side view of Mont Blanc. We stayed self catering but had breafast on one morning, I would not say the cost was worth it very basic food and quite a significant cost.

The hotel is fine but there is a massive down side the dstance from Cham and the busses are very very full. We wnt to Le Vert next door for our evening apres, great atmosphere and fantastic food , the lager was top notch as well!.

Cham is pricey, bit if you want poweder its worth it, hwever piste lovers get yourselves off to Flaine or Avoriaz.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor

Hotel des lacs is one on the cheapest hotels in Chamonix and offers decent clean rooms.
It's kind of spartan, has free parking (very difficult to find in other hotels) and a polite staff.

It's 15 minutes walk from the center but you can catch the bus or your car and make it 5 minutes. But the walk is very, very pleasant.

The top reason why I gave it 5 stars is the view. Ok, most of Chamonix hotels have wonderful views - but they charge you for that. Here, if you get a Mont Blanc room view, you will face the mountains from your window and it's priceless.

I will stay there again when I return to Chamonix.

After a week camping we decided to spend the last night of our trip in a hotel - big mistake! The next door hotel "le Vert" hosted a party that everyone seemed to enjoy - except ourselves...The load music got a little tiring after the first 6 hours but the encore of inebriated revellers making out on the bench below window at 3:30 in the morning pushed my wife a little too far... This may have been a one off Friday night binge but it seemed well set up for the occasion and appeared to be a local hang out, therefore it was disappointing not to have been warned and to be given a room directly above the "frivolities".
Apart from the night life the hotel was clean, comfortable and exactly what you'd expect from a decent 2 star hotel, but with spectacular views.

This hotel is located one kilometer away from downtown Chamonix. If you're not willing to walk that far, there are bus and train services running through the stops nearby.

Even though the hotel is not ideally located and the beds aren't very comfortable, it offers an excellent value for money, even during high season.

There was enough space for both of our winter clothes in the wardrobe, the bathroom had a good size, and the room was very clean.

Besides, staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, a good stay.
