Picture perfect, very peaceful position and silent at night, very convenient for transport on bus or train, very comfortable queen bed, very clean with excellent mid stay cleaning, helpful Collineige staff.
Main problem is poor draught proofing leading to a difficult to heat space particularly when the South wind blows in mid-winter. No problem under the duvet at night but we needed the duvet when watching tv. The shower is wonderfully hot but the bathroom is very small and cold needing a precariously positioned fan heater to make it palatable.
The kitchen is adequate for limited meals only (but great restaurants easily accessible).
In summary: The Mazot would be perfect for skiing couples more spartan than us planning to eat out in the main. It is probably perfect in Spring and Summer.
We stayed here as a family of four for a skiing holiday over Feb half term. The Mazot is just as described; quaint and quirky. Our two boys (10 & 7) enjoyed sleeping on the gallery reached by ladder and playing in the snow in the surrounding garden. The kitchen area has 2 electric rings and a combi microwave-Ok for basic meals but we did eat out a number of evenings. The bathroom was especially small and felt like being in a cupboard but adequate and plenty of hot water and toiletries.
We booked with Collienege and both beforehand and during our stay they were very helpful arranging ski lessons and lift passes and recommending where to ski etc. We used our car to get around Chamonix but the train is just across the road and the bus stops nearby too.
I would recommend this place for families although it is not practical for very young children and there is little privacy so older children/teenagers may object.
Mazot Les Tines is very cute and also very small, above all the bathroom.
In winter it's quite cold inside because of a floor not really well insulated and old windows. In the bathroom the heating is missing...
The surrounding is marvellous and the owner, Coleen, is a very kind person, always ready to help and to provide what you need.
We decided this year to give skiing with our two young boys a try again, this after a couple of difficult ski trips in the past. WOW!!!! what an amazing time we had. Mazot Les Tines is perfect for couples and small families and ideally situated to take advantage of any of the available ski slopes in Chamonix. The chalet itself was well equipped and very comfortable. The views of the mountains from both the master room and the porch are nothing short of breath taking.
The Collineige staff where absolutely amazing too, offering a very personal and local touch from advise on the best restaurants, kids ski schools, which slopes to use given our own skiing abilities and suggestions on other ski resorts on the one day that Chamonix had bad weather. Definitely highly recommend booking you next holiday through Collineige who have a range of accommodation choices. I certainly will.
