We had an excellent experience with the Hotel Les Grands Montets. The hotel wasn't full so they upgraded our room to give us more space. The decor of the lobby, bar and rooms is really cute. I especially loved all the little hearts throughout -- it's not "kitchy", but charming. Breakfast was excellent. The staff efficient. The bus system works well, but not in the evening, so without a car we ate in almost all the Argentiere restaurants. We loved Les Rondins.

People asked us all the time why, as Americans, we come to ski in Europe. We tell them that it is because we love to experience the European culture and to meet people from around the world. This hotel did not disappoint. I only wish that they did more to encourage people to meet. The beautiful fireplace lobby was usually empty as was the bar. Perhaps an apres ski happy hour a couple of times a week would liven the place up (and provide more revenue for the hotel). We did enjoy a drink after dinner in the bar. The bar tender was exceptional.

Overall, this was a great hotel, no regrets and I am pleased we chose it.

While in Chamonix this is my favorite Hotel, placed in a strategic spot just outside Chamonix, on the route to Switzerland and just behind the skilift, with an astonishing view on the glacier of the Mount Blanc. Around you see very cozy chalets.
Last time I was for a long family summer break with my Mother and Father in Law as well.
Breakfast excellent, one of the best I ever had, and friendly staff. Spa Area amazing
Beautiful rooms , very good value for money. I will come back for sure.

Traveling by train through France for our 25th wedding anniversary, we were skeptical of the location though the photos of the hotel appeared idyllic. Did not have a chance to research the train-to-hotel transportation and were completely ripped off by a taxi for $50 (as it was 2 towns away from train--the tracks were being worked on or would have been an easy walk from closer train station). At hotel, received a free bus pass to easily get back to town including train station. Karma Mr. Taxi Driver!! This was the most exquisite part of our trip through France (July is a hot month!), but the view of Mont Blanc is something to remember forever and the temperature was cooler for those last days of our trip--planned on purpose. Bar for evening cocktails, but no official restaurant for dinner (i.e. low rating). Is fine if you have transport, tough for foot travelers.

Room Tip: A view of Mont Balnc makes for an incredible wake-up call!

Went for a family summer break.
Excellent friendly staff and rooms all high quality.
The lovely indoor swimming pool, weights room and hot tub is a good feature of this hotel.
There is also a bar and the hotel is family friendly.
Breakfast is served in the hotel but dinners are not normally offered as there is no proper hotel kitchen. during our summer stay the hotel arranged on a number of evenings for outside caterers to provide very good meals at the hotel. This was a bonus on nights when we felt lazy and did not want to walk to any of the many nearby restaurants. The nearest restaurant is less than10 min walk away.
We did some mountain biking and hiking and also visited (the very very crowded) Aguille du midi lift for its amazing glacial mountain views. We thought the Grand Montets lift was almost as much fun with its big glacier etc, and not crowded at all.
This would be a very good ski hotel and means you can avoid the crowds and hordes of people "doing Chamonix".

Room Tip: The restaurant review is not applicable as the restaurant serves breakfast only except on days where there is enough demand for the outside caters to come. This is NOT a problem as there are so many restaurants in easy walking distance.

We stayed for a couple of nights in July, just a "stopover" on our way home from Switzerland. It was the perfect location, away from the rush of Chamonix, near the cable car to the Argentiere glacier, and with a free bus pass into the town. We watched the sunrise on Mont Blanc from our bed and returned from a strenuous mountain walk for a swim in the lovely pool and a soak in the hot tub. It was bliss, almost criminal to leave so soon. The hotel was able to offer evening meals while we were there, which was great. We'll definitely be back.
