The snow had started falling so it called for a proper warm hearty meal. I opted for the potato fritters for starters and the tartiflette for mains. The fritter was a very thin rosti, soggy in the middle and burnt on the edges. The tartiflette was underwhelming and tasted a little odd. Finally, don't drink the draft lager, it was so sour that I had to leave it, it came in a 1664 glass but there is no way it was Kronenbourg.

On the plus side, the prices were reasonable, the portions generous and the staff were friendly and attentive.

We decided on this restaurant after walking up and down the main street, we could smell the cheese from the raclette and tartiflette and with it being the first day we were in Chamonix we were wanting to try the regional dishes. Le Serac had other things like Steak etc on the menu and they other 25-30 euro three course menus. This is what we decided to have, our starters were salad niciose which is very big for a starter and delicious, a potato rosti and a dish which was ham baked in cheese. All the starters were of a good size especially for them being on a 25 euro menu.

The mains were steak with chips, again cooked to perfection, the raclette which was already made up i.e. the cheese was already melted on the meat salad etc. To get the raclette were you melt the cheese yourself you have to share it. All the raclettes we seen like this were very big. The last main was tartflette, which was delicious if you like cheese. Deserts were tart tatan and lemon tart. We were all very full after this meal and considering any main would have been 12-15 euros the three course menus are good value for money, if you can eat a lot! The decor was modern, different to the other restaurants around Chamonix. The beer was around 5 euros which is the common price in Chamonix and a glass of house red around 3.50-4 euros. You can sit outside or inside and is a nice place to eat and try regional dishes.

After skiing all day my husband and I wanted a place to have a couple of beers and some food. In the front of the restaurant was a bar area. There was one couple seated. We aked if we could have some beer and something to eat. After the waiter brought the beer, we waited for about five minutes for someone to ask what we would like to eat. No one came. So, we asked the waiter for a menu. We continued drinking our beer and started to wonder why the waiter never returned. The next thing we know, he brings us a check. Never asked if we wanted another beer. Never asked what we wanted off the menu. I don't know what he thought we wanted a menu for. The whole situation was just bizarre.

With so many restaurants to chose from we found this to be one of the best in the town centre. The "Specialities Savoyardes", which all the restuarants do, was very well cooked and presented. The service was very good altough the restuarant wasn't that busy so not sure what it would be like if it was full. Nevertheless we were treated as valued customers and the value was good. We would certainly return here when next in Chamonix
