“A great hotel, with spectacular views, in the heart of Chamonix”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

Having visited Chamonix on 5 previous occasions, staying at the Hotel l'Arve twice before, this was my wife's special request for her 50th birthday. I e-mailed the hotel to request, because it was a special occasion, one of the Mont Blanc view rooms we had stayed in before. I received a prompt reply saying that there was availability so I booked our 5 night stay to ski, cycle and celebrate.
We hired a car in Geneva for the one hour drive up to Chamonix (a treat in itself) because we knew there is plenty of parking available on site and arrived at about 5pm. We were quickly checked in and directed to a room which was the exact same one we stayed in the first time we stayed at l'Arve with a corner aspect giving us a large balcony overlooking the river toward Mont Blanc and a window view to Mont Blanc too. The room was more than large enough to accommodate us and all of our cycling and skiing gear (road bikes were hired from Zero G in Chamonix who kept them overnight). There was also a lovely gift from Emilie to celebrate my wife's birthday and our return to l'Arve which certainly added to the celebration (thank you again).
The location is ideal and our favoured location in Chamonix (we have stayed in Chamonix sud before) with easy access in and out by road, to the town centre on foot and to the ski areas. The hotel has everything we need for such a break and the service was impeccable, including printing off our return flight boarding passes for free. We also had breakfast which was a delightful continental breakfast of lots of local produce and great scrambled eggs!
The views and Chamonix speak for themselves and I would recommend both Chamonix and l'Arve for a great break and celebration. Thanks again to all at l'Arve.

Room Tip: All the views are spectacular but the Mont Blanc views are on the sunny side of the hotel though you...

Very quiet, comfortable and clean. Lovely location on the river; with some great view Ls. Brekky selection is tremendous for a smaller hotel. Staff are helpful and always on hand. The Japanese restaurant, Satsuki, literally around the corner make for a great combo. Would not look to stay elsewhere on a future trip. For walking up the valley de L Arve is a convenient place to start. All in all, probably the best holiday hotel experience for a long time.

Excellent hotel, the staff great, everything is in place for your happiness. The room super, clean and comfortable, the only point is the cable tv. But you don't go there to watch the tv anyway.
The busses to the ski fields were a steps from the hotel, the location is fantastic, near of the city center but not exactly on it, so you can rest at night without problems, if you have light sleep.
The après ski was ok. Not fantastic but correct.
We will return, for sure.
Again, the staff was super helpful with all ours request and doubts, they give us all the tips for the ski tickets (where to go first, witch plan option was the better for us.)
Great place, great ski

The location totally makes this a great hotel. Walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, and bars. But very quiet location, which is nice. Great storage room for our ski gear. Our room was clean but very basic. For a 3-star hotel you get exactly what you see on their website, no surprises. Decent hotel in an expensive town.

Staff is very friendly. We bought our Unlimited Mont Blanc passes at the front desk. Each morning we'd get directions on how to go to what hill we wanted to ski. Got a couple bad tips though. Was told to book our bus to Courmayeur, Italy from the train station and to get there we needed to cross the tracks. It's actually a small shack outside the bus/train station in town (different bldg) so you don't need to cross the tracks. And we were told to get to Le Tour we should take bus 12, or 1 or 11. I asked if we got on bus 1 or 11 then we would stay on after it stopped at Grand Montets and was told yes. Fortunately my boyfriend checked the route map when we got on bus 11 and realized we had to get off at a stop before Grand Montets and then hop onto bus 12. Not sure if staff was mis-informed or quick to get us on our way. It was disappointing but reminded us to check and double check for ourselves.

We had room 48 on the top floor but must been the smallest room in the hotel. With myself and my boyfriend, we both couldn't walk around at the same time. Only room for a bed, 2 night stands, small corner table with 2 chairs and a tv. We each had to take turns getting ready. It is probably meant for a single person. But we weren't in Chamonix to hang out in our rooms.

We enjoyed the apres ski in the lobby/lounge area twice but I believe it's only until 5:30pm. Nice to have a hot chocolate and cookies after a long day on the slopes. We had breakfast one day and it was ok. Mostly toast and cereals. We didn't try the sauna or use the fitness room.

Dear guest,
Thanks for your comments following your stay,
We are pleased that your enjoyed your stay in general and appreciated the cosy side of the hotel,
Concerning your room, n°48 is part of the smallest rooms, we try to attribute it to single occupancy byt over high season we only have couples and families so we have to attribute it to short stays in that case...
I am very sorry to hear that pieces of information given where not corresponding to your requests, there are 2 train stations in Chamonix so there might have been a confusion of which one to go to for Courmayeur buses and there are many different bus lines as well to get to the other ski areas we they probably misleed the numbers...We are very sorry for these misinformations as our receptionnists always do their best to give accurate tips,
Thanks for your comprehension,
Best regards

I spent two nights in this hotel and we all were very satisfied. The rooms were big enough for two people and we did have nice views from our rooms. Breakfast was good, having a good variety of different things.

We asked for the information of good restaurant for dinner and we were asked to visit Restaurant Atmosphere. It was perfect choice and we visited there twice. The hotel people called for the reservation and it was also needed. It was full of people both evenings.

We also got some help when choosing a place to ski. First day we were ready to ski around midday, thats why we were adviced to ski in Grande Motte area. Good piece of advice, the slopes were perfect even if the sun was shining heavily. Next morning we were skiing close to the hotel.

You can also walk to the liftstation but I recommend to take a bus to both skidestinations. Busses are free.

People at the hotel are very nice and helpful, next year we will be back!

This is the first review I have ever written and felt I should to let everyone know this hotel is great & in a brilliant location for the town, bars & you can walk to the ski lifts. There is also a bus stop just out front for travelling to other ski areas. The hotel staff are excellent. The hotel is nice and quiet and if you are looking for lively bars they are a 2 minute walk away however you cannot hear them from the Hotel and you get no drunks around!

Room Tip: Rooms looking towards Mont Blanc are very nice.

We spent in Hotel de l'Arve 4 nights (19-23.02.2014). In my opinion this is great quality comparing to the price that you are paying. We were looking on many hotels and finally chose this one and we didn't regret.
The place is wonderful. We were staying in the room 45 (double superior room) on the third floor at the side of the river. When we wok up in the morning and saw outstanding view through the window we were stunned. There are big windows in the room and big balcony so in summer you can enjoy those views just from the room. We were staying with our two children (4 month and 4 years) and really find the room very comfortable, with enough space even for play and run. Of course it would be much better in family room but it wasn't free. The bathroom was quite small but still ok. It was very quiet, we did not experience anything disturbing our sleep.
The breakfast was very nice. A lot of confitures, different breads, juices, cacao, different hams and cheese etc. What we were missing was some normal yellow cheese and some tomatoes, cucumber end other vegetables. Maybe they are present in summer period.
The staff was very friendly, they helped us with everything, well explained how to organize ourself. You can count on their help and really great attitude!
We recommend to everybody to stay here - You will enjoy this place!

Pomogli nam we wszystkim, wytłumaczyli, pomogli wybrać rozsądnie atrakcje do zobaczenia. Można na prawdę liczyć na ich pomoć i świetne pozytywne nastawienia cały czas.
Gorąco polecam zatrzymanie się w tym hotelu. Nie pożałujecie!
