“Beware that this cable car may be closed due to high winds”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013 via mobile

I had booked a spot the day before to avoid the crowds and wondered why there was no payment required. We soon found out that this is because this attraction is rather weather dependent. When we arrived the next day, there was almost no-one around at the cable car station. The staff at the desk were very friendly and in good spirits as they apologised for the weather; no trips on windy days.
I have no qualms about the weather affecting your plans as that is to be expected, especially in the high mountains. However, I was a bit surprised that there is no warning this attraction is very weather dependent, as their info boasts that it goes 'all year round.' It has been hard to pin down how often wind closes the ride, but there are similar stories across the net.
As it turned out, we popped down to Aosta and had a marvellous Italian lunch instead!

“Spectacular view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

It was overcast in Chamonix so I almost passed on this trip, fearing that there would be nothing to see at the top. It's a good thing I asked because the Aiguille du Midi (as well as the intermediate station) were well above the clouds and the view was fantastic. In fact, it was so clear that you could see the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Highly recommended.

“Top of the Europe, top of your heart”

If you are near Geneva - Lac Leman or Chamonix and you are fond of mountains and high altitudes, spend a day and visit Chamonix.
The best case scenario is to visit the summit during a shinny day, without low-altitude clouds or fog.
Try to schedule your visit there while you are having in mind that it is the #1 attraction of the area (the whole year round), so you have to deal with long queues at the ticket booth.
After an adventurous ascension with the cable car, you reach the first deck. By a small elevator, you can reach the top deck and enjoy the breath-taking view of the Alps and Chamonix itself.
There is also the starting point of the "Great Glassier - La Mer de Glace" skying experience.
If you are not afraid of the heights, go with passion and a very good camera with lots of GBs for photo shooting (panorama photos are "must").

“The best view you will ever have in your life.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

Forget the cost. Forget the height. Just get on the cable car and go! A top tip is to get off at the first stop. Spend 20mins or so there. This will help with the altitude when you get to the top. Even then, take it slow when you get there. You can be fit as anything, but you will suffer with the altitude if you rush things. Also take gloves if you want to take photos. We have seen the Grand Canyon, and this view still beats it. Absolutely wonderful.

“A must see when in chamonix”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

The most important thing is that you need to go on a bright sunny day when there are no clouds. The weather forecast of chamonix official site comes to your aid and should be used when planning a trip to Aiguille de Midi. It is an experience which cannot be missed.
