“Best restaurant in Chamonix!”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

Another excellent meal at Panier! Love this intimate, family-owned restaurant. Upon arrival we were greeted by Maureen, one of the owners (along with her partner, the chef!). Service was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. We were pleasantly surprised to find out our tables was reserved for the entire evening and took our time to enjoy the food. It was a long meal by USA standards, but delicious! (Also, we asked about the “other” waitress we read about on tripadvisor ... and it turns out it’s Maureen’s mother-in-law ... hmmm...).

I ordered the three course menu Retour des Alpages for 29.50 euro (a good value for Chamonix’s higher end restaurants). I started with the goat cheese ravioli with leeks in a cream sauce ... perfectly light & smooth but not heavy. The Sea Bream main was seasoned with basil and olive oil for a simple combination of fresh ingredients. Then, for a extra charge, I ordered the chocolate soufflé for desert ... incredibly light & fluffy on the outside with a hot molten chocolate inside. Has to be the best dessert in Chamonix!

Overall, the decor is a pleasant Haute Savoie style like what you would expect in a French mountain chalet. It’s a intimate space with no view ... room for say 15 tables. The focus is on the food and friendly. If you come expecting fresh food from local ingredients served with a pleasant attitude, you’ll understand why this is the #1 rated Chamonix restaurant on tripadvisor.com!

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

Great meal after an après ski sharpener or two. Packed busy and buzzing atmosphere, mgood wine list and well prepared and presented food. They also accepted a booking made by email prior to our arrival with no question which was superb.

“Fantastic meal”
Reviewed August 1, 2012 via mobile

We had a lovely meal at this restaurant. The service was excellent and food fantastic. The interior is pleasant but the restaurant does not have any kind of interesting views. It is situated just off a main street and windows in the dinning area look out on to the side street.

We ordered pâté to start that we shared, then my husband ordered a fish dish and I ordered steak with red pepper butter. Both our meals were delicious. Unfortunately we were too full to order a third course!

I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would eat there again.

“Overrated”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

The waiting times were appalling despite the restaurant not full, wait staff seemed to just saunter their way around the restaurant or stand by the till chatting. Had to wait 45 minutes and ask several times for wine and water. Food was around that time as well from ordering it. The entrees came ten minutes after the mains arrived. No explanations and no apologies. A very disappointing meal overall. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

“I don't know why this is #1 on trip advisor for Chamonix”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

The food was good, one of the servers was great - she was right on top of everything. The other seemed to maybe be a manager/owner and seemed very unsure of things. The food was fine, but I wouldn't rave about it. There was another restaurant in town which we enjoyed much more (Asian fusion) and ate at twice.
