Another excellent meal at Panier! Love this intimate, family-owned restaurant. Upon arrival we were greeted by Maureen, one of the owners (along with her partner, the chef!). Service was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. We were pleasantly surprised to find out our tables was reserved for the entire evening and took our time to enjoy the food. It was a long meal by USA standards, but delicious! (Also, we asked about the “other” waitress we read about on tripadvisor ... and it turns out it’s Maureen’s mother-in-law ... hmmm...).
I ordered the three course menu Retour des Alpages for 29.50 euro (a good value for Chamonix’s higher end restaurants). I started with the goat cheese ravioli with leeks in a cream sauce ... perfectly light & smooth but not heavy. The Sea Bream main was seasoned with basil and olive oil for a simple combination of fresh ingredients. Then, for a extra charge, I ordered the chocolate soufflé for desert ... incredibly light & fluffy on the outside with a hot molten chocolate inside. Has to be the best dessert in Chamonix!
Overall, the decor is a pleasant Haute Savoie style like what you would expect in a French mountain chalet. It’s a intimate space with no view ... room for say 15 tables. The focus is on the food and friendly. If you come expecting fresh food from local ingredients served with a pleasant attitude, you’ll understand why this is the #1 rated Chamonix restaurant on tripadvisor.com!
