“A perfect house for our group!”

We stayed at the property with a group of girl friends and had a great time. Spacious living room with a large table to accommodate the entire group at once, the same can be said for the eating area in the backyard. The bedrooms offered plenty of room for luggage and such and the beds are absolutely wonderful, which often isn't the case with rental properties. The view was great and the area was great for morning walks. The service was also very good, the owner as well as the caretaker are very friendly and were willing to meet our needs as much as possible.
We had a great time, thanks again!

I'm really pleased you enjoyed some precious "girl time" at our house and particularly that you found the beds so comfortable. For me, an important part of a holiday is being able to sleep well and feel rested, so I'm glad you felt the same way (the fresh mountain air helps too). Thanks for your kind comments about our service, you're welcome! I hope you will come back and stay at La Maison de Proméry again soon.

“Amazing house with view”
Reviewed August 17, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Had a lovely week in this gorgeous house in Annecy. Unfortunately it rained a lot but made it not so bad being at the house. Annie the lady who shows you round was a lovely lady, tried really hard considering we know very little French. Would definately go back.

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted you were so happy at our house. Shame that the weather was not better for your stay! It's usually beautiful during the summer, so please do come back and visit us again, when we hope you'll be able to see the views at their best and really enjoy the lake and mountains.

“A Home Away from Home”
Reviewed August 11, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

A Large group of 11 People attending the Annecy Film festival in town came to stay at this house and loved every minute of it. Quiet nights together cooking dinner after a long day or even sitting down and planning the next day on the large table in the living room. All of it was fantastic.

The neighbors were friendly and the scenery was beautiful. We were assisted by the next door neighbor and housekeeper and she was helpful and patient with our rather complicated travel arrangements and delays. Despite not speaking fluent English and with the assistance of Google translate she made our stay as smooth as possible.

The only downside (and a small one at that) is that the house is not particularly close to the main town of Annecy. Public transport is available, but relatively infrequent so DO make use of a car if you can!! Town is further away than it looks on the map and there are lots of hills so a "pleasant" bike ride can turn into your own mini "tour de france" complete with muscle cramps. That being said, despite having no cars and being lazy university students we were able to get to and from the house with little trouble.

The landlady is friendly, efficient and very accommodating. Being one of several groups that went to Annecy and stayed at different venues we were happy to find out our experience was possibly one of the best there.

After almost 3 months of travel, we all still look upon this cosy cottage as our one home among many many other hotels, hostels, and houses that we found ourselves in along our travels.

It's great that you found our house to be comfortable for such a large group, that you had a warm welcome and felt at home. I do recommend that guests have a car because they are then only a 10-15km drive from Annecy lake and town centre and can get out into the Alps easily, but it's good learning for the benefit of other young groups such as yourselves that many car hire companies insist upon your being over 25. We do get a lot of cycling groups and 'Tour de France' amateurs staying, for whom the ride into Annecy is a bit of a warm up, but if you aren't used to it I agree it's more of a work out!
It was lovely to be able to welcome such an enthusiastic group of students on your first big trip to Europe and I hope you'll all succeed in your animation film studies and be making great films to show at the Annecy Festival one day!

Many thanks for your kind comments and I'm very happy that you found the house to be practical and the area to have lots to entertain your young family. It's sounds like you were kept pretty busy with all the attractions! If you are planning a trip for another year let me know in advance and I'll send you the dates for local events I think the kids would enjoy, for example the kids festival in Le Grand Bornand late August, or the Medieval Festival in Andilly (near Santa's grotto).

“A Nice Place”
Reviewed March 9, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

The villa is charming with its French roof lines, creaky hardwood floors, and lovely large windows giving a bright & airy feel to the home. The house is set up on a knoll affording nice views of the rolling green hills and snow capped peaks of the Alps in the distance. Moreover, there is a paddock adjacent to the property with shaggy horses that only add to the pastoral feel of the residence. The property caretaker, Annie, is a cheerful and warm lady who spoke slowly to accommodate my subpar French. We felt welcome. We slept well in the large master suite with expansive windows looking out at a the peaceful view. The much needed laundry room was well equipped. The furnishings are not up to the level of the house, however. While nothing was beat up or chipped, the feel was a bit hodgepodge of nice country hand painted chests, heavy duty rental oak, Ikea, and a few items that came from a garage sale. The TV is old. The sofa is contemporary grey (leather?) and more suited to a lower end office waiting room, being completely out of place in this otherwise lovely country house. The tired plastic flowers strewn about every nook and cranny may not have had the intended effect, giving a down market, Mexican restaurant, feel. The kitchen, although a little fatigued and small relative to the size of the home, is satisfactory and well equipped. With any house, the desirable large windows make it hard to keep in the heat, and the supplemental heaters provided were noisy. I think vinegar is used as a cleaning agent, and we were compelled to open the doors and windows on the first day to get rid of the fish & chips smell of the place. The property was delivered clean, however. Although we would have appreciated a higher caliber of appointments within the villa, we enjoyed our stay, and would recommend the property. Sue, the owner was pleasant, professional, and responded nicely to our inquiries.

Thanks for having taken the time to provide such a detailed review. We are very pleased that you felt welcome and received good service from us. We consider this to be most important, along with providing a comfortable, spacious and practical holiday home for our guests, who are in the main extended family or sporting groups. Sometimes practicality has to take precedence over design style to meet this objective, so sorry if all of our furnishings were not to your taste. The house is also our family home, so reflects our own preferences and is very much in the simple, rustic, Savoyard style. We're glad none the less that you felt our home was "lovely", despite not liking our sofa (which is indeed new, genuine leather and doubles as a sofa bed should guests need an extra sleeping option beyond 8-10).

A couple of points to clarify for the benefit of future guests. Firstly, we agree the TV was an older model (still with a great picture mind you!) so have upgraded to one of the latest HD TVs. Guests will still be able to enjoy both British satellite channels via Sky, including BBC and ITV and a wide range of French and international channels via cable TV. Secondly, we renovated this lovely old "maison bourgeoise" with the aim of preserving its traditional character, but at the same time being as eco-friendly as possible. This includes using a heat exchager, an underground rainwater recuperation system, which includes the original well in the garden and wherever we can natural cleaning products that are not harmful to the environment (including the aforementioned apple fragranced "vinègre de ménage" commonly used in France). We received full points from the tourist board (UDOTSI74) for eco-friendliness, part of their classification of our home as four star accommodation. We shall continue in our efforts to preserve the beauty of this region and of our world and hope that our future guests will choose our home in part for its green credentials.
