I hiked La Tournette with my ten year old son in late June. To get to the trail head a car is necessary. From Annecy it is a 20-30 minute drive along the lake to the small town on Montmin. In Montmin, there is a small turn off up a steep hill with a sign labeled La Tournette Haute Savoie. Two miles or so on a small road between houses and you will hit a parking lot. Most seem to park there or you can continue on a dirt road up to a cheese shop and cafe where there too is parking. This will shorten your climb by 20 minutes through a pasture.
Assuming one parks in the lower lot, the trail starts as a moderated slope through pastures with cows and tall grass. Past the grazing land the trail gets steep and soon great views of Lake Annecy appear. Along the way there are nice places to rest including some huts with views of the Alps and lake. Eventually, there are snow fields and easy waterfalls to navigate. The trail is well marked and near the top there are chains and rails to help with more steep and difficult rock scrambles. From the top, views of the lake to one side and Mt. Blanc to the other can't be beat. There were also many ibex to encounter along the way.
