“Impressively restored and conserved”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

We visited on a very hot day, and spent twice as long as we expected. This is an admirable chateau which had been neglected or used as a military barracks for a couple of centuries. The local authority of the canton assumed ownership about 50 years ago, and commenced on a long programme of restoration. The main hall is fabulous, and it's used for concerts and receptions. The permanent art collection is tasteful, all with a local theme. I much admired the small picture of Donati's Comet over the Lac -- this is one I've never seen reproduced in astronomy books. There's a good educational display on the history of the Lac. If you like to visit old castles and chateaux with a cultural / educational element then you'll surely like Chateau d'Annecy. By the way, the views over the town and toward the Lac are impressive.

“Local history display worth a look”
Reviewed June 14, 2012

Great view of city and lake from up high. The display of locally made furniture was really interesting and unexpected. Great to wander around the vast rooms and chambers

“Wonderful Day In Annecy”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

On are way from Geneva to Avignon France, we stopped in Annecy, There was easy underground parking directly across from main street, We came on a Friday morning which was great there was a farmers market all the streets of the ancient town had many vendors selling wonderful products, cheeses meats fruits fresh baked goods soaps herbs, I got the most wonderful smelling bar of honey soap from a fellow selling honey products, I don't want to use it, I don't want the wonderful smell to dissappear. There were swans in the canals which made great photo ops and great little restuarants lining the lanes.

“Can't even take apicture in the courtyard.”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

I've been coming to this chateau for years. We were always allowed in the courtyard to take pictures of the view from above, but now you have to pay, even if you are not interested in going in the museum. Bummer...
