We visited on a very hot day, and spent twice as long as we expected. This is an admirable chateau which had been neglected or used as a military barracks for a couple of centuries. The local authority of the canton assumed ownership about 50 years ago, and commenced on a long programme of restoration. The main hall is fabulous, and it's used for concerts and receptions. The permanent art collection is tasteful, all with a local theme. I much admired the small picture of Donati's Comet over the Lac -- this is one I've never seen reproduced in astronomy books. There's a good educational display on the history of the Lac. If you like to visit old castles and chateaux with a cultural / educational element then you'll surely like Chateau d'Annecy. By the way, the views over the town and toward the Lac are impressive.
