“Wow this was worth the wait!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2012

We were in Annecy for two nights and tried to dine here the first of them, but they were full, so we had to wait a night. To say it was worth the wait is a great understatement, as this was one of the best meals we have had in a while. The dining room is tiny (18 covers) and they only open at 7:30, so seating is at a premium. But the meals!! We went for the "chef's inspiration" where the meal is at the chef's discretion, and we enjoyed every bit of it, from the amuses bouches through three savoury courses to the cheese and dessert. Each was beautiful to look at and even lovelier to eat, and included innovative touches that did not overwhelm the ingredients. And best of all, the price is very reasonable, in fact we spent a good deal of our time there wondering how they can afford to stay in business! Highly recommended indeed!!

“Why on earth do they not yet have a Michelin star”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

Quite possibly one of the best dining experiences I've had. Heads and shoulders above anything else you can eat in Annecy and for that matter many restaurants who have been awarded a star. A must if you're in town but it is not a place to take loud big crowds

“Simply exquisite! What Annecy has been waiting for...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2012

Having lived in Annecy for three years, friends will vouch that when asked where you can eat well here, my standard response was: "you can't".

Well that has just changed! L'Esquisse is quite simply exquisite!

The chef Stéphane Dattrino and his charming wife Magali provide an intimate dining experience in their new restaurant, L'Esquisse: which translates as "The Sketch" - very relevant as they start their new artistic creation. And art it is; the service is perfect (a rare thing to find I can assure you) and the food quite sublime. Magali explains the menu, dishes and wines with knowledge and passion. We opted for the "Inspirations" menu where you can choose between 2 or 3 courses with cheese and dessert chosen by Stéphane based on seasonal availability. Excellent local products perfectly cooked and presented in a modern yet comforting way accompanied by a great selection of wines served by the glass left all of our senses completely satisfied! And at a price which is more than reasonable.

Definitely recommended - if you are coming to Annecy, make sure you reserve a table!!

“Excellent food, very good and friendly service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2012

This restaurant is a real find. On a central street very close to the old town, this small restaurant is a real gem. The food is light, very tasty and also very natural. There is not the heavy fare of creamy sauces, etc. that often blights high end French food. Here, you are left to enjoy the flavours in their natural form, with a great combination of tastes, textures and presentation. We took the menu surprise, where you tell them your dislikes and beyond that trust them to prepare a 4 course meal. It was fantastic. The fish was amazing, the meat was tender and moist and the puree was the best I have ever had. The service is provided by the chef's wife who is friendly, attentive but politely informal. We brought two kids (aged 6 and 8) who loved their meal (after discussion with the chef, he prepared a very tasty meal for them). They were also accomodating of a baby in the party. We will definitely be back!

“Simple, skillful, superb”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2011

A young husband and wife team deserve huge success from this small beginning. The food is masterfully prepared and beautifully presented with great depth of flavour. Given a single chef the range of cooking techniques is admirable.

We just wish it was closer to home!
