There are many great hotels in Annecy that are closer to or in the old town. As with many things in life, there are always tradeoffs and this Novotel is a good example.

We were greeted nicely and check-in went smoothly. The lifts/elevators were large and efficient. The lobby has a bar, restaurant and even an Xbox for the kids!

Our Executive room was a slightly larger, upgraded room with a sofabed for two. It also offered amenities such as robes, slippers, an Nespresso machine w/pods, and a free minibar stocked with beverages and snacks. As with many chain hotels, the rooms are closer to typical US hotels but are very large by French/European standards.

The positives:
1) close to and convenient walk from train station (it's right next door)
2) large, modern U.S.-style rooms and bathrooms
3) even though the hotel is directly next to the train station, it's quiet due to double windows and good insulation!
4) spacious hotel public areas with amenities like XBox for kids, bicycles to borrow (free for up to 2 hours), full bar, and restaurant.
5) shopping center and cinema nearby, etc.

The negatives:
1) modern hotel doesn't have much character
2) it's a several block, 10-12 minute walk to the old town and lake

Overall, as long as you don't want a great view from the room and must be able to step right out into the old town, it was a very nice base for a visit to Annecy!

Overall it is a nice hotel. I think it would depend how close your room is to the railway tracks though as it is basically of the tracks. We were on the 4th floor facing the tracks and didn't have any problem with noise. The rooms were nice and clean, breakfast a great as well. It's definitely not right by the lake but its not too far to walk either. The lake it one of the main draws of the area and is great for an evening walk. Overall, no complaints.

The Novotel in Annecy is average and is right on top of the railway station and tracks which is handy if arriving by train but noisy as each train passes underneath. The location is good as you can walk to main attractions and restaurants. The "old part of the town" is very pretty and worth seeing. Breakfast was included and was O.K. but overall the hotel was underwhelming.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights as part of a tour. Room was quite large and typical of most hotels, but no safe in the room. Breakfasts were good, but very busy with lots of different groups arriving for breakfast at the same time. Some of our party reported noise from the nearby railway line, but it did not trouble us.

This is supposed to be four star but I don't think that is the case. It isn't up to the standard of the Novotels back home.

Room was clean but basic, a bit bland in decor. However we had a bath which is always nice.

Selection of tea bags very poor - did not get replenished and was mainly fruit tea.

Had a room overlooking the railway but unlike in this country, they were not too frequent and more of a rumble than noisy. I am a very light sleeper but only heard them weekdays about 6.30am.

Very convenient to town.

Breakfast ok - great tea (loose with teapots) but cereal limited and bare minimum hot selection. You'll still need to eat lunch!

Reception not very welcoming - despite booking months ago we were told they weren't expecting us. No smiles and made to feel as if we were an inconvenience.

We stayed in this hotel as part of a tour group. The staff were good, friendly and accommodating. The restaurant laid on a good buffet breakfast and the one dinner we had was also good.
Unfortunately the hotel has been built over the railway station and tracks. This means there is excessive noise and building vibration caused by the trains. We changed room from the second floor to the fifth floor but, whilst it reduced the noise a bit, it did nothing to reduce the vibration. The last train is about 10.30 pm and the first about 6.00 am.
The room layout is not good. The main bed is jammed up pretty close to the wall on one side - about 25 cm so it makes access very difficult. The so called extra double beds are only suitable for children due to their reduced length.
Overall this hotel is clearly designed for single stays on business trips and is priced accordingly.

Room Tip: Insist on floor 6!!
