I always thought that the best raclette in the world existed in Annecy at the Freti, until I tried l'Ecuelle. There you can find the best "specialites Savoyardes" that are equally as good and surpass the Freti with their offerings of tartiflettes (a clay plate filled with slices of potatoes and cream served straight out of the oven), fondues, and roestis. My partner, Danie, ordered "rognons de veau" (veal kidneys) cooked in madeira wine and mustard. That was enhanced for her with a glass of Grimbergen beer while I decided on a glass of Veuve Cliquot champagne. For dessert, we both had the tarte "aux poires" (pear tart) . It is a place you should not miss always crowded with sophisticated patrons.
