this hotel had many quirky yet comfortable feelings..we really enjoyed our stay.
We live in coastal Southern California ,and it felt like home, but with France eclectic.
pros: absolutely silent air conditioners..XLNT bedding /linens
ultra clean..fun owners... tea room" =small plate foods and good wine list..especially our fav' Provence style Rose.
cons: ultra central location also means people congested ..traveling carnival etc.
overnight parking was a LONG walk.
overall= WILL return whenever in this area

Room Tip: take a deep breath before you speak to owner..DO NOT get demanding

Best location for walking to village/shops/restaurants. Make sure Sophie is serving in the morning, she's an absolute delight and so helpful. Breakfast outside is wonderful and plentiful - yogurt, fresh/hot pastries/croissants, jam, fresh fruit (figs, canteloupe) and dried fruits. Best place in town to watch the running of the bulls. This is not the Ritz. We were 6 women traveling together and staying here made our trip even more memorable.

Loved this hotel.

The good: great location, comfortable spacious bedrooms, great air conditioning, balconies, a wonderful pool with plenty of sunbeds. Breakfast was fabulous - yogurt, pastries, croissants, 5 kinds of jam, lots of fresh fruit (including figs, canteloupe) and dried fruits. Very clean and safe. The rooms are very clean and the bathrooms modern.

The not as great...there is secure parking, but it is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The shower had a hand-held wand. As noted in several other reviews, the reception area and hallway are filled with various religious icons (including a 4 foot tall of Joseph & baby Jesus that I nearly knocked over), and a scent of lemon cleaner is fairly strong in the hallways. However - the bedrooms are pleasantly free of both religious icons and lemon scent.

St. Remy is a great place for exploring Provence - highly recommend a cooking class in Vaison. Also recommend making a booking for dinner ahead of time, especially for weekends. We had trouble getting a table both nights.

Great base for touring Provence. Good value.
Stay away from restaurant named Auberge de la Reine Jeanne. They cut their teeth on English speaking tourists.

A very quirky hotel. All the rooms are different in style, it's worth making friends with other guests to see their rooms. There' a quiet little garden with a swimming pool to relax in. The breakfasts are served with piles of fresh fruit , and the lunches are good too. Altogether a very interesting stay-would like to go again.

Hotel Gounod was interesting. We stayed in a standard double-room room (Room no. 1) which had red and pink walls, very dim lighting, no spare power points or spare pillows, only one tiny rubbish bin in the bathroom and the wi-fi internet that was supposed to be in the rooms could only be found if you stood on tiptoes and held you phone or PC upside down, and even then, it was only one bar and dropped out after about 90 seconds. There was a small desk in the room, but no power to charge any electronic devices you may have with you. Luckily we brought along a powerboard There was no DO NOT DISTURB sign, which was odd. Thankfully, we were never caught out doing hank panky, but it would be nice to have that reassurance.

A big negative was the lack of mini-bar in the room. As all bottle shops and supermarkets do not sell alcohol cold, there was no way you could have yourself a chilled bottle of wine for a picnic. There was also nowhere you could store cheese and meats, which was a bit upsetting as we would never go through a 300gm cheese in one day and had to throw it out.

On the positive side, the bathroom was very quirky and cool, despite not having a door so when you stepped out of the shower, the whole room could see you (thankfully i was there with my husband, not my brother). The fittings were all a bit crooked (mirror/taps/soap holder) but this added to the charm. The bed was a king size, the shower was large and had a fantastic water flow from the huge head, with the option of the hand-held shower as well. The towels were a good size and towel gowns were also provided. The a/c was good and the double windows were somewhat effective during the late night concerts and bull runs happening outside our window.

The breakfast was lovely with an orange juice, plate of dried prunes and apricots, another plate of apricots, kiwis, plums and cantaloupe, a basket of bread/croissasnts with assorted jams and a bottle of yoghurt. The coffee machine produced great coffee and chocolate.

The common areas were strange to say the least. There was a serious religious/jesus theme going on with statues and paintings everywhere. This was more quirky than offensive though. There was a faint smell of sewerage on the way to our room in the main building, which was overpowered by some very strong citrrus smelling cleaning product, obviously a problem the hotel was aware of but couldn't do much about. The toilet in our room smelled fine and we kind of got used to the weird smell. They do not have a washing service and could only direct us to a DIY laundromat. This was fine for us but may not be ideal for people who aren't in town long.

The bar area was only open until 7pm, which was disappointing as there was nowhere else indoors where you could sit and read/drink/play on your computer. The wi-fi in the foyer was very fast. The 5 euro/day charge for use of the garage is well worth it as parking in St-Remy can be a real bugger. There was a lovely little swimming pool and outdoor garden that looked nice, although we didn't end up using.

The staff were especially friendly and helpful. They made us dinner reservations and gave us recommendations for photo opps with sunflowers.

Although lacking in some areas, we did spend most of the day out and about so the facilities that were lacking didn't impact our trip too much.

Room Tip: If visiting in Summer, ask for one of the courtyard rooms to be as far away from the noise of the st...

My DH and I spent five nights at Hotel Gounod and were sad to leave. What makes this hotel so memorable are several factors. First, at the front desk.were very helpful, blue-eyed, and English-speaking Heidi and in the tea room at breakfast, effervescent Sophie. We wanted to adopt both young women! The breakfasts, which were included, were absolutely divine, filling the little round cafe tables with all manner of fruts, pastries, jams, fresh orange juice, yoghurt and coffee or hot chocolate. Charming, charming tea room, the likes of which Americans try to copy and never can get right. Garden in the back looks like Barbados, with flowering trees and bushes. We had a standard room, tiny, with only a table and two chairs. If you have more than a 29" suitcase and a carry-on, you may have trouble fitting it in.. Bathroom is well set up, nice fluffy towels, but not enough light for putting make-up on. L'occitane toiletries were only soap so bring lotion! Secure parking a 10 minute walk away; drop your luggage off first! This is a great base for exploring a good part of Provence. St. Remy is basically a round- about and is easy getting in and out of in a car.
