Owner description: Last massif before the Mediterranean Sea, the Alpilles are lighted up with thousands of glints. On its northern side, between Saint- Rémy-de-Provence and Eygalières, nature has fortuitously drawn a triumphant "V". A geological breach that creates a dynamic and exceptional relief. Perhaps you might behold the gliders' serene ballet above the ruins of a 13th century castle. You have just arrived, indeed, at Château Romanin. In the middle of the mythical and historic Provence, discover a majestic and unique vineyard, cultivated according to the rhythm of nature and biodynamic methods. Embodied by an ancient castle and a modern cellar, Château Romanin is protected and magnified by a real underground cathedral carved out of rock. Delight yourself with a tour, a wine tasting in the cellar.
Useful Information: Stairs / elevator, Wheelchair access

The Romanin wines are second to non and better than most in their price range.

Once you pluck up the courage to drive along the gravel track to the cave in the mountain it is so much worth wile.

Helpful staff. Go visit!

Being in France for the first time and a wine lover, I was very excited about visiting a winery in France. The Tourist Information Center in Saint Remy recommended Chateau Romanin. The vineyards are breath taking. However, I was so disappointed in the winery. To begin with, when we walked in, there was one lady behind the counter. She was not welcoming, and we felt very awkward for being there. We told her the TI center had recommended their winery and she seemed uninterested. We asked if we could do a tasting (it wasn't offered after starting the conversation). She told us they have 3 wines. There was no explanation of the wines, history of the winery, NOTHING! She served us the first wine (once again with no discussion etc) being a white wine, and it was not good. She then served us the red wine (once again not saying anything about the wine - just "here it is") and it was terrible too. She then served us the blush and it was pretty good. We bought two bottles of the blush. I was planning on shipping at least a case back home to the US if we found a great wine, had a memorable experience etc. However, after the way we were treated, that was out of the question. In addition, there is not a place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine/bottle at the winery. With such a beautiful location, you would think there would be tables outside (or at least inside) to enjoy the wine. Perhaps this isn't how wineries in France operate? Also, once we finished our "tasting" the lady told us there was a group doing a quick tour of the winery and we could join in although they were almost finished. We saw one room of the winery on the tour. :( We drove quite a distance to get there (not easy to find), and we were there for only 20 minutes. There is so much potential in this winery that it saddens me how we were treated, lack of education given, lack of ambiance, etc.

The tour of Chateau Romanin was very interesting. We got to see the actual process of turning grapes into wine. All the workers are very friendly and posed for pictures while working. After the tour, we went into the tasting room and enjoyed tasting four different wines. We all walked away with at least one bottle of great wine to be enjoyed later that evening. The view from the parking lot is worth the drive to the winery. Absolutely beautiful view of the vineyards.
