“Excellent little gem”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

Had a fantastic lunch in this pretty little courtyard restaurant, tucked away off the main drag of st remy. The tomato and mozerella slad was superb

“Only One Minus”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

Here are the good points and pluses of Chez Fanny:

1) It is quiet. You do not have the fumes of cars and trucks like the myriad of other cafes on the ring road of St. Remy-de-Provence.

2) The decor is chic Mediterranean. Nice chairs, tables and decor. A lot of decorating work and expense went into the furnishings.

3) The service is good, but can be a just a bit slow. However, the wait staff is very pleasant and courteous, unlike some of the other eating establishments in town.

3) The little touches are there. The olives for the amuse-bouche were really good.

4) The frites are amazing. They are perhaps the best that I have had in Provence. Crispy on the outside and wonderful potato on the inside.

5) An interesting textural thing in the salad -- deep fried onions. They add a nice taste and crunch.

6) The portions are generous. The chunks of pineapple in the Salad Indienne were big.

7) The salad and vegetables are fresh.

8) The little touches are evident. My meal had a radish carved as a flower.

9) The bread was fresh.

9) The price is right. 32 Euros for a large lunch, including a beer and tea.

The two negatives:

1) The beef carpaccio. It was watery and previously frozen. As a matter of fact, it was the thin sliced beef commonly sold for fondues. However the taste was ameliorated by grated romano cheese on it and the sauce.

2) The limited menu. However they do offer a tapas menu which we didn't get a chance to try.

All in all though, the ranking is deserved. This is one of the better bistro/cafes in St. Remy-de-Provence. You can catch a better meal though with some of the special menus in other cafes. For example, on Pentecost Sunday, many cafes had a special Pentecost menu with lamb. However, for consistency alone plus value, Chez Fanny has it.

“Solid cuisine tucked away in a courtyard in Saint-Remy”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

This place is in a courtyard that must be very pleasant when the weather is warm (cold and night when we were there). We had risotto de mer (good although just a bit too much wine taste) and brandade de morue and wine in a carafe for 42 euros. Good choices - the salads looked good too; portions are large. A good choice among the many overpriced and pretentious restaurants in Saint-Remy. Very friendly service and check out the cool Fatboy cordless lamps on the tables.

“our best experience in St Remy”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

St Remy de Provence was a lovely town that has fallen victim to its reputation. The streets are overcrowded, the restaurants overpriced. Chez Fanny is a notable exception. Fresh products, large portions, very friendly owners. Nice quiet sitting on a courtyard shared with the Medina restaurant. Lunch for 2 was €37.
