“Wonderful experience for family”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

We recently spent 5 nights at Le Mas Des Carassins while vacationing in the south of France. We had their suite called "La Jasse" - all rooms are named on the keys - and we found it to be comfortable and simply though nicely decorated in Provencal style. La Jasse suite is in the main building upstairs and included a king bedroom, upstairs loft with 2 additional single beds (fairly steep wooden ladder access though so be careful with younger kids), a glass enclosed sun porch off the bedroom with sitting furniture, and then a lovely outdoor terrace off of that with dining table, lounge furniture, and fountain - overlooking the side gardens. The mistral was blowing quite strongly for the first couple of days, making temps cooler than normal and blustery for outdoor eating, but then it settled down and the weather was warm and summery. The A/C worked fine for cooling down the room. We enjoyed the main pool very much every afternoon. As other reviewers say, dinners at Mas des Carassins were extremely enjoyable and we found the food and service to be top notch. Overall, we have only great things to say about this hotel - it is a textbook "Mas" property that has been lovingly turned into an intimate, boutique hotel that is both traditional Provence and quirkily reflective of the owners' eclectic taste in art (sculptures adorn the property). The grounds are well maintained and contain chairs and lounging spaces in many places so you can enjoy a drink or chat in privacy. While we were there other guests were a mix of families with children and couples. We found the front desk staff to be very nice and welcoming and helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations in St Remy. Walking in to town is easy (about 15 mins to center of town) though no real sidewalks per se until you get closer into town. Traffic going by may bother some with the walk. Overall, a very pleasant stay and we would recommend to anyone. Our son especially enjoyed the resident french bulldog Beau :)

I booked a twin-bed room almost one year in advance and I reconfirmed that it had to have two beds. When I got to the hotel, there were two beds, but made into a double one with just one cover. As I reminded them I had specifically asked for two beds since we were two friends traveling together, they just separated them.
As the rooms are very, very small, we couldn't open the window and there was no room to put the luggage -we know in France rooms are smal, but here they were tiny- so I asked Jean Pierre to change the room, if possible, to a larger one, paying the difference, of course.
He said it was possible to change paying the difference, so the morning after we changed rooms and when once again I asked him to have two beds instead of one, he started SHOUTING at me.
I was asking for something normal that I had already asked in my reservation and that was confirmed at the time of the booking.
Besides this there were other questions regarding service, such as not having bread for toasts at 8:30 in the morning the day we were leaving. I asked for some bread for toasts and they told me they didn't have any left. Breakfast was until ten and it was only 8:30.
As I have said, the hotel is beautiful, the swimming pools great, but service is not good. It was a dissapointment.

Room Tip: Don't ask for a Standard rooms, they are tiny.

Dear Guests
we regret that the stay of this guests with us was not as enjoyable as they expected
Nevertheless, as always in these type of review, points are sometimes exagerated and a lot of emotion can be passed
These guests from Buenos aires since they arrived at the hotel ( 2 ladies over 60 more demanding than usual guests ) have been asking for thousands of things
We always try to satisfy guests but sometimes whatever you do, people remain unsatisfied!!!
These ladies effectively have asked for a twin bedroom standard rate for 5 nights with american breakfast and 3 diners for 2 package and that what they have
As soon as they arrived, complains arrived, i have been there personnally to welcome them
The room was too small 19 sqmeters with a 20 sqm terrace!!!
they have asked for twin beds and start to complain that was not a room with twin beds
the beds were in fact push together but have been made sepaterely
no problem with separate them and put a night table between the 2 beds
then the room was too small
ok, so i propose to them a room change superior with a supplement of 45 euros which they accept for the day after
following morning, made the transfer myself , guide the guests to the new room and same complain again starts the room was too small : 35 sqm with a living room a bedroom and a large bathroom, so i ask then what they do expect for a room at 140 euros and propose them to go to a 4/5 stars hotel at 450 euros the room for a suite of 40sqm!! which they refused of course
same complain of the beds..that was not a twin bedroom and we separate again the beds at their resquest no problems

in the evening, i was in duty
diners service is till 8.30 pm
they arrive smiling at 9.15 pm at reception to see if it was still possible to have still diner and to be pleased with them i accept
I dont think we offer a deficient service
they forgot to tell the readers obout the help to visit the area
the glass of champagne offered etc etc
for breakfast, we have a full buffet breakfast service with a large offer of food and there is no possbility that at 8.30 in morning ( we serve until 10.30) there is no more bread and toasts
pleasure of "free" complain to say something negative on the hotel
Hopefully, we receive not very often eternal unsatisfied guests!!!

We arrived at Le Mas Des Carassins after a seven and a half hour drive which should have taken 3 and a half hours, so it was lovely to be greeted with a warm smile and to be shown into a cool, tiled, air-conditioned room. Parking was easy, in the large, secure car park and the short walk through the garden to the hotel created a good first impression. Our room was comfortably 'rustic', with enough wardrobe space, a large comfortable bed, small-ish bathroom and separate toilet and a view over the garden and the top of Les Alpilles.

We had booked a package of 4 nights' bed and breakfast and dinner on two of the nights. We could choose which two nights to dine in, so we opted for our first and last nights. The food is excellent, fresh, creative and beautifully presented. Although four courses sounds like a lot, the portion sizes are sensible, so you are able to enjoy everything without feeling uncomfortably full. The menu for the evening is posted on the noticeboard in the morning and guests are asked to let the staff know if they will be dining that evening. On the day we arrived I explained that I don't eat meat and my husband doesn't eat fish. This wasn't a problem at all - I was given some John Dory instead of the lamb on the first night. We were impressed on our last day when we said we wanted to eat there and the lady at reception (not the person who had checked us in) remembered that my husband doesn't like fish and said they would cook guinea fowl for him instead of the sea bream.

Meals are taken in the garden and you can see the staff working hard during the afternoon to make the tables look attractive.

Breakfast is all self-service and can be taken indoors or in the garden. It was all very fresh and plentiful.

On the two evenings when we chose not to eat in the hotel, we sat in the lovely gardens and ordered a bottle of wine (Chateau Romarin, a good, local wine, recommended to us by our waiter on the first night) on one night and a bottle of champagne on the other night. Even though the staff were busy serving those guests who were dining, they were more than happy to bring drinks to whichever secluded spot in the garden we had chosen.

The hotel has two swimming pools, which we didn't get a chance to use, although they did look very inviting in the hot Provence sun.

From the hotel you can easily walk into the centre of St Remy (about 10 minutes) or, in the opposite direction, to the Roman site of Glanum (15 minutes) and the asylum where Van Gogh produced many great works during his year there.

Other places - Arles, Avignon, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Mediterranean coast - are all an easy drive away.

All in all, a perfect place to stay.

The owners have successfully managed to offer something more than just a 3 star hotel. Boutique is appropriate and the whole experience was excellent. For those that want flexibility with meals, note that our rate (and others?) included a fixed 3 course dinner menu with option available if asked so may not suit everyone.

Food was honest and the dining experience outside in the terrace garden was a joy. Great product.

Room Tip: They have adjoining rooms with common entry for families

We stayed at this hotel while en-route along our 3 day Provence biking trip. St-Remy-de-Provence is a beautiful town, a very idealistic version of what I always imagined a provencial town to be like. It was actually one of the prettiest areas that we have seen. The hotel is a short walk (10 minutes) to the center of town. It is far enough removed to provide for a secluded and relaxed environment. The grounds of the hotel were absolutely beautiful & well-maintained.
Our room was accessed through the garden, where each room had it's own patio area and was separated by a row of hedges. The layout made it feel like you had your own villa.
We appreciated all of the extra details and noticed that management was very tuned in to what guests really want. All staff spoke fluent English and provided excellent service.

It was a bit cold for the season, so we did not get the opportunity to take advantage of the lovely pool area.

We also enjoyed a lovely 7 course dinner - it was nice having the luxury of a good meal without having to travel. I would absolutely stay here again given the opportunity to return to the area.

We stayed 6 nights at Le Mas Des Carassins Hotel in May this year and enjoyed it very much. The room was clean and roomy and the staff really took good care of us. Our package included dinner at night and the meals were excellent giving us the chance to try lots of different things every night and not having to go look for dinner away from the hotel. The grounds are well set out and you can always find a space of your own to relax if need be. If we lived closer we would stay more often. A great spot.

This is a lovely inn a short distance from the center of St Remy. The grounds are so inviting for a relaxing visit. Meals are taken in the garden or inside. The food was very well prepared and presented. One of our favorite offerings was a zucchini creme brûlée. I can't wait to try to recreate it at home. We loved our patio for a quiet drink or read. The pool was well maintained and refreshing.
