“Pros and cons”
Reviewed July 18, 2011

This is an absolutely lovely hotel. I've wrestled about writing a review because there's nothing negative to say about the hotel itself- the room was clean, the location is lovely, the gardens and pools were spectacular and the meal was fabulous. But I believe it's only fair to mention that our experience was soured when we received an email in the middle of our trip to Europe that one of the two nights we had reserved (6 months earlier, confirmed twice) at Le Mas Des Carassins had been cancelled, and that we would need to stay at their sister hotel in Gordes. If I hadn't checked my email, we would have shown up only to find out they didn't have a room for us. Turns out there was a large tour group there, and I would guess that our room had been given to them. So our meal in the garden, albeit delicious, was next to loud group of Americans. In the morning, their tour bus arrived during our breakfast and ran its loud, smelly diesel engines within 30 feet of us throughout our lovely meal. I loved the hotel and the management was quite nice; in fact they comped us the meal, which was thoughtful (the value of this was lost when we followed their extremely poor directions to the train station, got miserably lost for over an hour and missed our train, resulting in a $125 fee). Even though their Gordes hotel has fabulous views, it's just unfortunate that we had to rearrange our long-awaited travel plans and miss several sights that we'd hoped to see. Lesson learned: check to see if the hotel is hosting any large groups; it put a big damper on our enjoyment of this nice location. Their Gordes hotel also had a loud group that kept us awake. So as lovely as their hotels are, I wouldn't risk staying here again.

ASTOUNDED!!!!!!
We have been litterally stupefied by the review of this guest
A/ BOOKING
By controlling this booking, we have noticed a difference between our planning and the reservation of this guest , one night reserved and 2 nights wanted in their first request
We have contacted them 2 weeks prior their arrival to check departure and arrival date with adequate solution if 2 nights were reserved to avoid any problems upon arrival
We have suggested 3 different solutions
1/ To reserve 2 nights in saint remy in a similar hotel to avoid hotel changes
refused by the guests!!
2/ To stay 2 nights at le mas des romarins in Gordes with one diner for 2 offered at le mas
refused by the guests
3/ to stay one night at le mas des romarins in Gordes and 1 night at le mas des carassins in saint Remy with diner for 2 offered at le mas des carassins to apologize for the inconvenience which has been accepted by the guests
What have been our surpised to read all the critics of this guest

B/Concerning the groups
It is not our policy to deal with big groups
We have only limited groups 3 or 4 times a year with about 10 till 15 people
We always try to limit the noise of groups by reserving them special areas to avoid noise pertubation for the ohers guets like special diner area in the garden apart from the other guests
COncerning the bus noise the readers have to know that the parking is separate from the rest of the premices by walls and trees hedges
If the noise of the bus was sucha problem, is would have been so simple to inform us and we will ask the driver to stop the engine
nobody on that day has suffered of such a problem
C/ TGV directions
To reach TGV Station needs basic sense of orientation
all straight on till avignon from st remy just follow the sign in green avignon and then indication of tgv station once entering in Avignon could not be more simple
We regret such a problem for these guests to find their direction ( map given )

IN conclusion we have been deeply affected by the information given on that review which are not reflected the reality of the professionalism of the team to try to find the best solution for this guests as the information pass to our group policy which is totally incorrect

This was a return trip and we stayed in the new annexe. The room was lovely with views over the gardens. The shower was great and the room was always very clean. There are now two very good swimming pools. We had dinner at the hotel every night of our five night stay. The food was excellent and great value. So lovely to have the meals in the garden. We must also compliment the staff who were are always very friendly and welcoming. They helped to make our stay so enjoyable. Our favourite hotel in France.

Our party of six adults (one couple, my two sisters, my nephew and I) spent 3 nights here during our recent trip. We had 3 rooms, 2 of which (a queen bedroom and superior twin bedroom) were in the main building, and another (a twin bedroom) which was in the new addition. My nephew and I stayed in the new addition room which was on the 2nd (American 3rd) floor (no lift). The room was fairly spacious, although some of that space was in the form of a lower roof space (the building is realy 2 1/2 stories), so it was useful for storing luggage and such, but we repeatedly bumped our heads against the beam in this area. A minor problem from my perspective, and I'd rather have the additional space with this limitation, than not have it at all.

The bathroom was very modern and well appointed, with a spacious shower, The windows, including the skylight, had electronically controlled shutters that allowed you to make the room nice and dark when trying to sleep.

The hotel has spacious grounds with two pools, and lots of green space. Part of the outdoor space is used for outdoor dining when the weather permits.

We were required to do the half board option, which meant that we got breakfast every morning, and dinner two nights out of three. The food was good, and it was probably a good buy, but foodies might prefer to stay someplace where they will be able to sample more restaurants rather than having repeat meals at one location. St. Remy has many places to eat, but if you do half board, then you use some of the advantage of choosing St. Remy as your base for exploring Provence.

The hotel is very convenient for those travelling by cars with a nice car park. It's within easy walking distance of the town center (less than 10 minutes with a relatively flat walk), but on a very peaceful side street, just off the main road south. Besides the low clearance in my room, the only knock I'd have is that the wifi provided proved to be very spotty during our stay. Of course, this is not a business hotel, so, if you contemplate spending a lot of time on your computer, this might not be the property for you, but then again, what are you doing in Provence if you want to spend a lot of time on the internet? I had enough internet access to check my email several times, which was all that I really needed.

We spent 6 nights here and 2 nights at Le Chateau des Alpilles over Easter. We had the Estable room (accessed from the outside of the main building next door to reception).
Reasons why this hotel is so good for a couple with a baby:
- Room format: living room and bedroom separated by door allowing adults relax in evening while baby sleeps
- FOOD - fantastic - highlight of the trip. We looked forward to our meal every single day. Make sure that you book ahead as we missed one night and regrettably had to eat elsewhere. We obviously haven't gotten out much since our daughter was born so it was great to have a quality restaurant just meters from your room.
- Hotel grounds - The gardens and pool were large and well maintained so we spent a lot of time just chilling in the garden.
- People - very welcoming to families. Can dress up for dinner etc if you like but absolutely no need - very relaxed atmosphere.

Draw backs for some
- Quality of room furnishing - this didn't bother us at all. I was just surprised given the quality of the rest of the hotel that they hadn't bothered to update some of the furniture in the room. I could see some people might get a bit fussy with this kind of thing.

My wife and I really needed a relaxing break and hadn't been in Provence for some years.
We chose Le Mas Des Carassins because of the very favourable reviews I had read on 'tripadvisor'. I can only say that our eight days there in mid-June were truly a 'heaven on earth' experience.

Every aspect of our stay, including the wonderful food, surroundings and the super-attentive staff, was simply without fault. To conclude, I'm just trying to figure out how soon we can go back!

This B&B on the edge of St-Remy-de-Provence has an excellent location, with just a 5 to 10 minute walk to the center of town. The staff was fantastic, most notably Karine and Marlon who attended to all our needs and requests. The property and grounds are spacious and nicely laid out, with a classical country French design. The rooms are "comfortable" but do not offer a luxury experience. They are generally on par with a basic U.S. hotel such as a Holiday Inn or a Marriott. The bed was fine, but a little soft in the middle. The bathroom was also adequate but counterspace and the shower were tight. The A/C was tough to adjust to and there was some street noise out the window of our King suite from cars driving through the alley late at night.

The dinners were fantastic. The service was elegant and refined. A multi-course pre-fixe moderately priced meal was served every night, but they were able to give special attention to our requests and dietary needs. They really remembered who we were. The food was excellent (although this is not a Michelin starred restaurant), the decor and atmosphere are warm, bright and classic country French and you cannot find a more convenient dining alternative if you're staying at the hotel.

I almost hesitate to write this review, because I want to be sure there is space for me the next time I visit. This was our favorite hotel on our two week trip to France. Charming rooms, delightful gardens and wonderful breakfast. It was everything and more that we hoped it would be. Unforunately we were there only one night, but I shall stay longer next time and explore the lovely city.

Room Tip: Our room for two ladies provided a loft.
