I always loved Don Mclean's song 'Vincent'. After visiting the mental hospital which he checked himself into and standing in then places Van Gogh stood while painting just took me back in time. I understood the lyrics much more after that and was happy to have had the opportunity to experience it first hand. A definite must visit if you are into history.

We visited this place as part of the walk which starts in the town and takes about 20 minutes to slowly wonder along a series of plaques which slowly take you through Vincent's life in the area in a creative way

A highly recommend doing it all together if you can because the Mousole really brought it together and made it a really enjoyable experience

The place itself is a beautiful setting with all the architecture, gardens and history you would expect

We went early and on a weekday so it was so peaceful with just a few people there - nice

It was cheap and takes maybe 30 minutes with some great insights into the man and the time and the opportunity to put yourself in the paintings in real life as it doesn't seem to have changed in a hundred years

To see where Van Gogh recuperated and painted so many canvases left us awestruck. Viewing his room makes you eerily feel his presence. We were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful garden and ended our visit with a picnic shaded by the olive tress nearby.

St. Paul Monastery is located 10 minutes walk from St Remy Tourist office (just before the main entrance to the city). It is still-functioning mental hospital where Van Gogh was treated for severe depression and other diagnosis. Painting was part of therapy and he produced more than 143 paintings in his 53 weeks here.

You will visit a re-creation of his simple room with window opened to lavender field, small chapel (we were lucky to hear choir rehearsal) and absolutely adorable cloisters. Inside the hospital as well as outside you will see panels of Vincent's works, most of them he painted here.

Parking is free, a ticket-entrance costs 5 euro, open daily. Must see if you are in St Remy (which is one of the best and beautiful town in Provence) or around. It was really unforgettable and memorable visit and at the same time was very sad to realize the contrast between the simplicity and unhappiness of his life and the multimillion-dollar value of his paintings today.

Liked seeing where Van Gogh spent his days....beautiful property, easy to visit, nice gift shop. The rooms are interesting and you could almost feel Van Gogh's ghost following you around.
