Thank goodness places like this still exist! Our recent trip to Provence was great, but I regret that our stay here was so short. There are a few things that the management could do to improve Roussan, but its beauty, charm and tranquility are so far beyond what "modern" hotels can match that these flaws seemed basically irrelevant at the end of the day.

The Chateau is over 300 years old, and to say it has aged gracefully would be an understatement. The interior and exterior of the Chateau are absolutely gorgeous, as are the large grounds and gardens. We stayed on the third floor of the main wing and we were very happy with the room (good air con, comfy bed, nice bathtub, good water pressure on the shower and very spacious all around)

It is also conveniently located less than 2km from St. Remy, a very nice town. The restaurant is also excellent! We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there, and the food was better and more traditional than in one we had in a highly rated place in Avignon on the following day (the atmosphere may have skewed my view though (beautiful view and a surprising lack of foreign tourists eating there.)

As for the shortcoming of Roussan, I can list a few (which still didn't detract from our overall experience). 1) The internet was not functioning at all due to maintenance. Not sure if this is a frequent issue. 2). No swimming pool. Not necessary here but would have been a nice bonus. 3). Restaurant was understaffed, but then again so are most places in France during the summer.

Overall, a fantastic and very memorable experience!

Just wonderful. So beautiful 17th century chateau. Great food, grounds, service. Stayed in the main house. Modern beautiful bathrooms. Amazing air conditioning. Perfect in every way but could use a bar to meet the other guests and a swimming pool.

This is the first time we have stayed at Roussan since their massive (e5m) refurbishment. To be quite honest I booked with some trepidation – I have returned too often to lovely hotels to find that they have been ruined by well-meaning ‘improvements’.

Here’s the good news – the calm relaxing atmosphere has not changed one jot. The tree-lined approach which so stuns new arrivals, the gentle 18th century chateau, the acres of understated watery gardens are unchanged.

Where’s the money gone? More rooms, state-of-the-art plumbing, a lift, air-con throughout (no more mosquitoes), a proper dining room with a great chef, new staff, a manager (Emilie) who is clearly devoted to Roussan and her role. Vladima on the front desk, Maria making coffee.

Emilie described her and her owners future plans in detail during our stay – all devoted to further improving and enhancing what is, in my experience, one of the most uniquely relaxing hotels anywhere in the south of France, with the huge bonus of being three minutes drive away from the nicest village in all of Provence.

I can’t wait to return next June.

The chateau has been restored to perfection, while keeping the original flavor intact. fromt he basics, the bathrooms are wonderful, comfy bathtub, pipping hot water, great strong water pressure, AC with no noise at all, solid walls so no noise from your neighbors either. Super clean. Breakfast was quality with a small buffet with yogourts, breads, cereals, juices, scrambled eggs, cheeses, hams, fruit, plus they will make you eggs however you like. teas, coffees in nice oversized latte cups, sitting out in the garden with the peaceful trees and birds was so very special. We normally stay at places like the four seasons, oberio and this place was right there with them on a smaller level. Had a room at the top, vincent which we liked, elevator to the first floor and then stairs there rest. The details are amazing, this was done for a love of this home and not for profit. Staff are so helpful and knowledgable, speak great english. The bed is not a westin heaven bed, but was a king size and comfy enough for france, crisp high thread sheets, sofa in the room. 5 minute drive in to Remy, and for us was a no brainer to stay here then any of the places in town.

Room Tip: We stayed one night in a room on the main floor which was nice too but a lot smaller, moved to vince...

While the setting is sublime and the staff could not be more accommodating, the rooms are so-so and seemed overpriced to us. Ours was a third floor walk-up (no lift) so ask for a lower if you object to stairs. The town of St. Remy is well worth a visit......loads of charm with many restaurants and appealing shops.

We stayed here for five nights in late April and it was a wonderful experience.

From start to finish, the staff was helpful, friendly and informative.

If we needed something in our room, it was promptly brought. We had our laundry done there and the price was not bad at all. One evening, we decided to just have cheese, fruit and bread in our room and they brought us plates, silverware and wine glasses! Another afternoon, we ordered a bottle of chilled white wine to the Library and the head waiter appeared with the wine list and we reviewed the options together.

Our room was one of the Les Chatellains in the Chateau, called Maguelone. It was wonderful with a view out of the front of the Chateau down the tree-lined road. The air conditioning in our room worked excellently.

The bed was a little firm for our tastes, but we seem to find that a lot in European hotels. Everything else was wonderful.

The breakfasts were very good, with a friendly waitress bringing us eggs and coffee and a very nice buffet spread.

The restaurant itself and the dinners were wonderful!! The first night we had the chef's selection, which was eight courses. We spent over three hours in culinary heaven. At the end of the evening, the chef-owner, Vincent appeared and we had a wonderful talk! We ate there three other evenings, with a wonderful variety of food and wines. The wait staff was attentive and wonderful, with Georges and Vino providing both excellent suggestions as to food and expert guidance as to the wine (Vino had recently redone their wine list and it is excellent). Our last evening, we ate outside, finishing our night with champagne with Vincent. We cannot recall a lovelier restaurant experience and we have been to a lot of very nice restaurants!

Finally, the Chateau itself is a treasure. Dating back more than 400 years, originally built by the brother of Nostrodamus, a wonderful park with a greenhouse designed by Gustave Eiffel, you feel transported back to another time.

Saint-Remy-de-Provence is a wonderful place to tour Provence generally and Chateau Roussan is an excellent place to stay.

We will definitely be back.

We stayed at the Chateau for three nights. Warm welcoming staff, beautiful room and a magnificent setting. it was off season so the hotel was quiet, the trees still not blossomed, but we felt we were in another time. Even though it is located outside of the center of St Remy, it is still a good location, and one needs a car anyhow in Provence. We ate at the restaurant one night, quite delicious!
Downside, and perhaps in the high season they are organized differently, but it would be good to have a bellboy to take you luggage where you park the car as you cannot drive right up to the door.
All in all, a most pleasurable stay!
