Le Chateau des Alpilles
Certificate of Excellence

My partner and I have just arrived home from 3 days at the chateau which were truly lovely...the setting is just perfect - sitting under the plane trees at the front of the chateau is something that dreams are made of..

The staff are just as the other reviews describe - very helpful, making reservations, suggesting visits, generally making things as easy/enjoyable as possible for you.

Oh and the food - just perfect - so fresh and tasty, you didn't want the meal to end.

We also ate one night 'cheap and cheerful' in St Remy on the chateaus recommendation at the Bouchon de Provence, which was also well worth visiting (simple food, cheap and run by a friendly young team).

And just to make things even better there is so much to do just on your doorstep - Avignon, Arles and Ste Remy to potter round
(take your credit card!)

Already planning a return visit.

A very nice hotel. We stayed at one of the Suites. It was nice and clean. The staff was friendly. The pool was nice. The tenniscourts were ok. The breakfast was good.

The bad stuff: The restaurant was closed on wedensdays. Moreover it was difficult to get a table in the restaurant if you did not book in advance. The level of the suites quality was not satisfiying. The Aircondition worked very badly and smelled. There was noises from the rooms next door.

Not a childfriendly hotel.

After a bad experience in Arles we were lucky to find this spot and even luckier to get in. A wonderful experience in a magnificent location. Lovely pool and rounds.
We enjoyed a lovely evening having dinner on the terrace one balmy evening, which even the lack lustre performance of the kitchen could not spoil. Like many restaurants in Provence, they were not quite as good as they think they are...fancy dishes arriving cold after long waits with indifferent service.

There really is no need for this, but I hope that future patrons will feel rest assured that this hotel is 'still the bizz'. I am planning to return again next June - a good month to visit the area - fresh succulent fruit in abundance, the lavender is just about out, and it is heaven on earth sitting outside the Chateau beside tables covered in crisp white linen, eating fantastic meals, and occasionally browsing up towards the dappled sunlight, glinting through the magnificent plane trees (which coincidentally would make fantastic tree houses!!)

I stayed here years ago and we literally sought refuge there in April. We'd just been robbed of nearly everything in Marseilles. We thought we'd have to go back to Paris to get me a new passport. But we needed a place to spend the night first.

Chateau des Alpilles not only welcomed us, they helped with everything! Calling hotels to cancel (and getting our depositis back) speaking in French to the police to help me get back my passport. We were on the phone long distance to the US constantly -- and the phone charges were reasonable!

Meanwhile, the rooms were huge, 20' x 20' with 15 foot ceilings, antiques, Peirre Deux fabrics and wall papers. Chic bathrooms with every convenience. The rooms were perfect. The grounds included a swimming pool, a fish pond, place to play petanque, choruses of frogs and the sawing of cigalles, the French crikets.

Tthe hotel restaurant, open to guests only, was beyond outstanding. Imagine sitting in front of a 1802 chateau of pale stone: five windows across each of three floors. A double row of plane trees leading to the house provide a great place to have a drink before dinner. There's a light breeze fluttering the leaves, and you are sipping champagne. The kind Jean-Pierre or the puck-ish Dominique walks over and ask what you would like for dinner...

All problems are forgotten. Heaven should be so nice.

A beautiful Chateau hotel set in expansive, walled grounds, with top quality rooms and decor, making one feel most welcome for a 3 night stay. Dedicated, friendly, caring and obliging staff. Patricia, from Reception, was particularly helpful, over and above the call of duty,
to chase lost baggage from Sydney (Lufthansa/Thai) and Catherine Rollin, the Proprietor, was "hands on" with the efficient running of this hotel.

Free internet access at Reception was an added bonus to check on mail
etc. Excellent location to be based to tour the area - Arles, Avignon, Les Baux, Isle sur la Sorgue(Sunday antique market), Nimes for starters! Highly recommended. (By the way, the luggage finally was delivered, on the 5th day after leaving Sydney, to Aix-en-Provence where had moved on to!)
