Garrigae Abbaye de Sainte Croix

We stayed at Abbaye de Sainte Croix 9/2012 and LOVED the place. The hotel property is just beautiful in a relaxed upscale country kind of way. Perfect hilltop setting with stunning views of Provence. A converted monastery, the main areas and rooms are attractively furnished in neutrals with lots of antiques spread thru the place. They have 2 choices for dining, Bistro and Dining room. The food was excellent….dining room was pricey as expected…with wine about 100 Euros/pps. Bistro was half that and food was lovely there too. As there were many different common areas to the hotel it never felt crowded. Pool looked pleasant. Though only 5-10 minutes away, it is a bit of a winding drive up hill from Salon de Provence, so the restaurants within the hotel are very convenient at night. The Salon de Provence soap factories in the village were nice to visit and shop. On a Sunday, we toured Isle sur la sorge with its busy market , Gordes, Rousillon and Bonnieux, in one pleasant but full day to return to the hotel in time for cleanup and a cocktail before dinner. if you want to swim by the pool in the late afternoon…skip Bonnieux……:) our only disappointment was that the staff at the hotel seemed VERY unprepared for concierge type questions about the surrounding area. No local maps to give out…etc. As a Relais and Chateaux hotel, I expected them to be more forthcoming with information….maybe a little xeroxed piece on ideas for what to do and see nearby? (like the little soap factories in Salon…) Staff was VERY friendly and pleasant, beds average in comfort for Europe.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding the Abbey – particularly concerning the dinner and the staff. I am pleased that you appreciate the atmosphere, the charme and the view of the Abbey. However, I am disappointed that you have not suggestions for places to visit. It is not on our standard procedures and I will be sure to improve this point with the reception.

I hope to see you again very soon amongst us.

Kind Regards,

Nicolas Cochais

Stayed 3 nights in August and certainly a beautiful location and peaceful, apart from screaming kids in the pool but then it was August. I did find service sadly lacking here. Having parked you car you have to walk right across restaurant terrace to find reception so there is no greeting. The receptionist went with my wife to sort out bags from the car and my wife ended up carrying 3 herself.. When we left I didn't even ask for help but moved car around to the back entrance and loaded myself.
Food here was disappointing. Setting on the terrace is wonderful looking down over the plateau to Marseille and if you are lucky you will get a free show from the French equivalent of the Red Arrows whose base is just below you. We had the gastronomic menu but thought it was not worth the money as it was all show and Tralala without good quality products. The lamb was 50% fat and the fish was dry and overlooked smothered in sauce. Breakfast here was also very disappointing and basic compared to similar hoels just visited. They need to try much harder despite the recession.

We enjoyed the drive across country and arrived just in time to enjoy the beautiful views, a swim, and a lovely sunset. Our room was spacious, and perfectly clean. Lots of little thoughtful touches such as a basket with towels to take things to the pool.

Dinner was magnificent - drinks on the terrace overlooking the countryside, the head waiter was very kind with our pigeon french and I think spoke easily understandable french to us. He helped with our wine and did not recommend the most expensive on the list.

I would recommend it as a real treat.

Room Tip: Our room was in the centre, probably above reception, it was so quiet and had a beautiful view.

Everything about this hotel is very unique and authentic.
The place is a bit difficult to locate, but it makes it even better.
The views are magnificent. Rooms - maybe not extremely spacious - do remind you that you are in the abbey. Even the names - ours was St. Paul. We even got the postcard with it.
We only spent one night there and were not able to dine there, but breakfast was OK. Maybe a bit overpriced, maybe some would prefer more vegetables and fruits, but the quality was quite good.
The hotel has a swimming pool about 15 m long that adds to its advantages.
One thing to note. They gave us an iron, but no ironing board - I cannot understand why many hotels are so reluctant to have a few irons and boards available to their clients!

This is a beautiful hotel in the south of France, just outside the town of Salon. Really friendly staff and rooms immaculately clean. We stayed for two nights and the service stands out - young staff but always friendly and helpful and a genuine sense that they'll do whatever they can to make your stay special without being in your face all the time.
The rooms and the grounds are beautiful so plenty to do just wandering around taking in the views and the architecture and lounging by the pool.
As mentioned by someone else in a review, there is a real push to get you to eat at the hotel but we didn't regret doing so - amazing food and lovely wine in the bistro. There are some lovely touches throughout the hotel - biscuits in reception and a bowl of apples in each room plus a sitting room with large jars of little treats.
If you are looking for somewhere to spend two romantic nights in a beautiful part of France, this hotel comes highly recommended!

The room was great. The grounds and view are amazing! The food is pricey but you have to enjoy at least 1 dinner there. It is top quality digestion dinner. They really push for you to eat all meals there which is kind of annoying. Only fault to be honest. All around great value and shabby chic.
