We have stayed here every year for the last 3 years and love it. It's a lovely quaint and quirky hotel. Everyone is friendly, polite and helpful. The place is old-fashioned and perhaps a little tired in places, but this is part of its charm. We love the fact that the chef comes to chat to guests and make them feel welcome. He is from an old, local family and we have learnt more about the village from him. Overall, a calming, restful and unique place to stay.

Watch out for those hair pin bends getting there and back - v enjoyable :-).
Lovely food and reasonable prices with stunning views - make sure you book the right side of the hotel to enjoy the amazing views rather than car park. Rooms are basic with a very rustic charm - walls pretty thin so you can often hear other guests in their rooms or staff setting/clearing restaurant.

Room Tip: Book on the side that overlooks the mountain and y

My wife and I, both from the south of France, live in Ireland and we wanted a special place to celebrate our Wedding in France.
We find this beautiful place: "Auberge de la madone" (which is a fabulous hotel too). The restaurant offers a beautiful view on the valley, and is probably the most romantic place that we can find!. Peillon village is famous for his medieval history, and the restaurant kept a lot of this history and charm. Our guest loved it and planned to go back there.
Organising the whole event from Dublin was difficult but thanks to Christian Millo (owner) and his son, we had a brilliant wedding. They helped us preparing the full afternoon, taking care of everything, giving us great ideas and contacts to make this moment unforgettable. Mr Millo is a great Chief (the hotel is known for his excellent food: 1 star Michelin) and an incredible Host!

Thanks again for taking off the stress and making this day the best day in our life!

Room Tip: Just ask Christian Millo , He is a great host!! :)

On a driving holiday in France, we booked into this hotel on the night of our first wedding anniversary and it was an absolute delight.

Peillon, the village where this hotel is located, is a gem in itself. It is a very old, tiny village perched on a mountain-top. The drive up to the village takes you on a very windy road with plenty of hairpin bends up steep hills. As you drive up the mountainside wondering if your trusty GPS has failed you, Peillon suddenly unveils itself looking as though it was carved out of the mountainside. You do need a car to get to there - I don't think there are buses to the village.

We were met at the hotel door by a gentleman who, we later learned, has worked with this family run hotel for many years (always a good sign!). He was very polite - friendly but not overly so - and asked if we would like dinner that evening before showing us to and around our room.

Our room was really two rooms - the bedroom with ensuite and a living room. Each room had a balcony overlooking the beautiful valley and up to the village itself. The only criticism we had was that there was no shower curtain in the bath, but the bathroom itself was very nicely decorated and perfectly clean.

We were vising out of season and we weren't sure if we were the only guests at the hotel. With that in mind, we weren't sure if we would feel a little uncomfortable during our meal. As suspected, we were the only guests at dinner, however we had a lovely evening, thanks to the gentleman who welcomed us earlier now being our waiter and making us feel very comfortable. He had arranged a table for us in such a way that we didn't feel lost in the relatively large room. Throughout the meal, we were neither rushed nor intruded upon and overall, we had a lovely and really enjoyable evening.

The meal itself was unforgettable, and given it was prepared by a michelan starred chef, it was exceptionally priced (I can't remember how much it cost exactly, but I think it was in the region of €40 each for the full 5 course meal).

One thing you must bear in mind however is that the location of this hotel and restaurant is such that supplies aren't easily to hand. Also, we visited out of season and only booked the room a few hours before we arrived. Therefore, there was no menu to choose from as such; instead a meal was suggested to us and we were happy with what was being offered. Presumably, if you didn't like something, some alternative would have been offered, but I would recommend asking what is on the menu when you book if you are a choosy eater, and particularly if you have allergies.

Please don't let this put you off however - I'm no foodie, but it was an outstanding meal. I hope to find myself there again, if even just for the food.

Back to the village itself. There's nothing really in the village but it is a treat to visit. It's filled with really narrow alleys winding up through the village where a church meets you at the top on a small plaza. Around Peillon, there appears to be some lovely walks around the mountainside, and I believe there is another village further up the mountain.

We really enjoyed our visit to Peillon, but would only really recommend it for a short stay, and obviously would highly recommend it just for a visit to the restaurant. Peillon is about a 30min drive from Nice and there's little to do in Peillon itself except for strolls around the mountainside or relaxing with a book. Peillon village wouldn't be suitable for people with impaired mobility as there are many steps and steep inclines.

the road which lead us to the hotel was steep and narrow and probably difficult to make curves if you have very large size car. (we drove Citroën C3) We loved the small, quiet, beautiful village and not to mention the dinner was fantastic. (we ordered a 62 euro dinner-course) We understand why this restaurant was given one star. We were more than satisfied and we would love to stay at "Auberge de la Madone" again.
