The New Hotel of Marseille attempts to lift graffiti to an art; it surrounds at every turn on the ground floor; however with such greats as Revok, Lady Pink, Seak, Daim and Dondi showing the world that graffiti can be as spectacular as conventional art the collection at the hotel falls a little short of art. In my humble opinion it appears that the builders created a hotel that was modern, sharp and white - starkly white - and in comes the interior decorator and adds the funky art however there was little attempt to carry the art theme through to the fixtures and fittings except perhaps with the funky waiter's trays and thats where the art stops.
The staff are friendly and made great allowances for my incredibly poor French; most were you but had all the energy and exuberance of youth; in fact i would say that the greatest asset at the New Hotel is not the 'art' but the staff.
My bedroom was comfortable and clean and functional. What spoiled the stay for me was the the petty cheapness of charging for the Nespresso coffee that was placed with its machine in my room.
I stayed in late November 2012 and when I arrived the Air Con had been switched off and the heating switched on - however the hotel corridor and my bedroom was so hot that sleeping was impossible without the bedroom wondow open fully throughout the night.
I'm not sure if I would return!
