“Bad experience - Don't stay there unless you really want to save”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

I wouldn't stay there again. The hotel is new but the quality of the building and of the fixtures is so bad that it is already falling apart. Staff hasn't been trained and is unhelpful and rude.
In our room, water was dripping from the ceiling into the room.
The hotel is relatively cheap but they will charge guests for not bringing out trash or missing utensils.
Location is 30 minutes on foot from downtown in the port area. A bad area to hang out at night.
Wifi is only available in the lobby and you need to sign up in order to access.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

i stayed here the first week of july 2013, and left with conflicting opinions about this place.

We rented a car from the airport, (don't do this if you're not a confident driver, Marseille traffic if a nightmare, i learnt this the hard way) hoping the satnav would take us to the hotel with no problems. as soon as we entered the district our hearts sank. there was a lot of building work going on and the area itself was seriously dilapidated. The hotel was impossible to find, we had to resort to parking up near by and finding it on foot. (for some reason people in Marseille see no problem with parking in the middle of a road as long as their hazard lights are on!) there are no signs or fronts to indicate that it is a hotel, we actually walked passed it a couple of times assuming it was just a normal apartment complex. Just look out for a large wooden fence inbetween two unassuming white buildings.
Once inside we were relieved to find it was clean and modern.
The staff spoke good English and were polite.
The room was spacious as was the bathroom, which was bigger than most hotels ive stayed in. Again, both clean and modern. My only gripe with the room was that there was not enough closet space, plenty of desk space however, with the added bonus of a small clean kitchen area. As we were not intending on spending much time inside the hotel; i wasn't bothered by the fact our view was of a crumbling wall and into locals flats.
The dining hall area was tiny so we didn't expect them to serve much of a breakfast, we duly opted out of the breakfast option. Whether the food is nice or not, i cant say. be aware however this is the only area where you can pick up the free WIFI.

Now in regards to the actual room service; there isn't any! to our great dismay the hotel DOESN'T change your towels or bedsheets!!!! there is no mention of this anywhere in the hotel's website or even on check in!Take your own towels, there is a radiator in the bathroom which you can turn on and off to dry your towels on.
Don't get the room dirty either, it will be you having to clean it up and empty the trash or be charged for the privilege!
There is no safe for any valuables.
if you need an iron, you will need to ask but be prepared to be turned down as there are only 3 to serve the entire hotel! not great when the reason you went to Marseille was for a wedding and need to look sharp!
buy some food and keep it in the fridge or go to the local take outs dotted about around the block; you wont be able to call room service and get some the kitchen to make you anything!

Sleeping was fine as there isnt much local traffic and next to noise from other hotel residents either.

the location is a good trek from anything touristy, its ok if you have a car or are comfortable with public transport. If you are renting a car i strongly suggest paying for the parking in the hotel. i would not trust leaving the car parked on the street over night in case of theft or damage. every single car in this city has body work damage as everyone drives like a mad man. if you want your car damage deposit returned, invest in the parking!

the hotel definitely has its pros and cons. For the ridiculously low cost of the stay, especially compared to other hotels in Marseille, this place to be fair is a bargain.

Room Tip: *get a room up high if you want something that resembles a view. *take your own towels as the hotel...

What a terrible place, I would never stay there ever again. Here is my story: I booked 4 double rooms. When we got there, they had already given the rooms away - even though we called and told them we were going to check in late. Once that was sorted we all went to our rooms. About 1 hour later, my room started to flood from a leak in the ceiling. They moved to another room - a single, even though I paid extra for a double. They wouldn't give me the reduced rate, instead I got a response of "if you don't like it, I can give you your money back and you can leave, or you can stay in the flooded room". What terrible customer service. Not worth the hassle, I stayed. The next day the elevator crapped out and I had to walk up and down 7 flights of stairs. Internet only works in the lobby. On the third day the elevator failed again and they refused to call someone to fix it. Another guest convinced them to do a service call by telling them he hears voices in the elevator shaft. The front desk staff is rude, the beds are mediocre at best. The location is on the very edge of town, about 30 minutes from the beach. The staff advised to not walk around outside at night, and the street Is covered with broken glass from cars that have been broken into. Don't do it.

Room Tip: find another hotel

Great place. Relatively new so everything is up to date. Rooms are very large, bathroom as well. Only downside is that wifi is only in the lobby and the location is not the best if you're looking to do many touristey things around Marseille. Also while we were there our water heater wasn't working so we had to shower in the freezing cold.

Just spent four nights here after finding overpriced hotels with mediocre traveller reviews just not worth it so went for 'DIY' job and mighty pleased I did. The building is very new and the apartment on the 4th floor (served by large Otis elevator) that my grandson and myself stayed in reflected this. Our room though compact was ample for our needs with modern appliances i.e. hob, hood, kettle, fridge and dishwasher (set fridge on position 5 and liquids freeze!). Everything was clean and unmarked including cutlery and crocks. There isn't an iron or washing machine though, not that we wanted either. The beds had deep comfortable mattresses that were noiseless and accommodated both our 6'4" frames with ease (my frame bulkier than the grandsons!). The bathroom was square and roomier than a lot of European hotels that I have stayed in. The power shower when cranked up to full made the water feel like needles hitting ones body. There were no funny smells or mold growing in corners, nothing was broken, the lights were especially bright and there were electric sockets aplenty in the apartment. The apartment has it's own hot water tank and needless to say the water was always piping. There is aircon but we never needed to use it even though the temperature was in the low seventies, the window opens ok and that was sufficient cooling at night. The curtain is a blackout one with a strong net inner curtain for privacy and the fixings are solid. We never heard a sound from neighbouring rooms, no toilet flushing or doors banging, corridors are carpeted, traffic noise barley discernable with window open, when shut - silence. No maid service, no towel or sheet change but depends on length of stay obviously, a tip here - towels and linen are supplied by the Initial Group and are barely adequate to dry your body after a shower so bring your own bath sheet or large towel. We did not try the breakfast as we both prefer our unhealthy but delicious full English. As for the area, it is a bit grotty but Marseille is a mucky city all round and dog owners are not fussy about where their pets defecate either and cars are abandoned on pathways and left to rot. We were out and about at all hours and never felt threatened and the French people are quite friendly even when you talk with hands and schoolboy French! To get to Appart'City on foot take Metro 2 from Saint Charles to National (only 4 stops), go to the right on exiting the Metro and turn right at the second intersection and 50 yards down is a compound behind railings where the entrance to the apartments is. All the receptionists spoke good English and were helpful.
