We spent three nights at hotel 96 and it is quite nice.
The problem is the location. There is a 59 minute walk to the beach. To drive anywhere means using very narrow roads. There is very limited public transport.
The rooms are clean and spacious. The breakfast is ok but maybe a it expensive.

My daughter booked this delightful hotel and as we were approaching, she said "oh dear, I think I have made a mistake, we are not IN Marseille". She need not have worried. We were greeted by delightful staff and as we sat on our terrace with a drink and some delicious tapenade, overlooking the hills, decided that this was the most fabulous place to be. That evening we had a delicious dinner in Les Gourdes and the following day took the boat into Marseille - what a great way to travel and for only 5 euros. On the second evening we decided not to drive anywhere and to have dinner at the hotel which was totally perfect. We were served at a table outside, the food was brought to us - and the rose wine, of course, and then left in peace.
Everything here is HOME MADE - whether it be compote, yoghurt, savouries, sweets and of course our dinner.
Hotel 96 is one of the best places I have stayed and the staff, of course, make it even better

We stayed 2 nights on a 10 day trip of France, and by far and away the best hotel.
Everyone at the hotel was helpful, enthusiastic, willing to help and wanting to make our stay great. We ended up eating in one night, no service, small menu - but just delicious and beautifully presented. Everything house/home made and delicious at breakfast, including the yoghurt, compotes, cakes,...I would recommend Marseille just to stay at Hotel 96!

Hotel 96 is run with love and care. The breakfasts are home made fruits and compotes, and many other items, served by lovely smiling staff. The rooms are spacious, modern and stylish, with big opening windows to your own patio opening to a lovely relaxing garden area. There is a kettle for making a cup of tea or coffee in your room - yahoo. Big modern bathrooms with lovely natural body products - and a lovely small pool with bean bags and sun loungers to relax in. We travelled to the Calanques on three of the days and this hotel was perfectly positioned for the walking trails and easy to drive to Cassis for the kayaking in the Calanques.
