We were pleased to be able to stay at this magnificent hotel for several nights in January.

I am a bit perplexed by other reviewers who suggest it is not centrally located -- across from the Pavillon Daviel (city hall), backing to the Panier (old town) and just a couple of minutes walk to the old port. For us, one couldn't be more "central."

I was also confused by those who suggested the décor to be out of character for the area -- the horizontal striping perfectly echoes both the La Major Cathedral and Notre Dame de la Garde, the latter of which provides an amazing view to patrons of the dining room, deck and some of the upgraded rooms.

Though we did not enjoy a room upgrade, we had a large, well appointed room overlooking the garden. Our bathroom had both a shower and a large soaking tub with an elegant gray-on-gray and cream décor.

The room was well equipped with a coffee maker and mini-bar which, at our request, was emptied to provide room for our in-room wines and snacks. In addition, we never had a problem with the free Wi-Fi included in the room rate.

Though the formal dining room was closed during our visit, the food and service were both spectacular at the brasserie, Les Fenêtres.

The impressive building is a bit intimidating, but the staff was warm and welcoming -- from the front desk agents to the concierge to the bellmen (especially Christoph) to the dining room manager -- we were always acknowledged and given a warm welcome.

Like other reviewers, we found access to the pool to be a bit challenging, but appreciate the challenges of maintaining historic integrity when renovating, The reward for persistence is a beautiful pool worth one's efforts.

Had a very pleasant two night stay here in Marseille.

The hotel is a remodeled old hospital and its exterior is very impressive. The interior, however, was completely gutted and inside it is indistinguishable from any other modern business hotel. I think this is a shame as it retains none of the character of the old building.

Service is friendly and pleasant. The concierge was very helpful in obtaining restaurant reservations.

The room, as I have said, is very modern and comfortable although I wish they had kept some of the more classic touches. The bed was extremely comfortable.

The location is excellent, located at the Vieux Port, and a short walking distance away from the Canebiere and Metro stops. The area felt generally very safe.

The fitness room is literally just a large room and is a little sparse in terms of equipment.

I do not think the Hotel Dieu can be beat in terms of a combination of luxury and location. Would stay again.

The hotel has a beautiful modern interior, yet retaining some of the historic features.
The location, just a 3 minute walk down to the Vieux Port is excellent and very quiet too.
We had a special dinner in the Brasserie, and the meal was a gourmet experience - reservation definitely required, we were lucky to get the last table on a Thursday evening!
Staff in all areas are very attentive, smiling, helpful and knowledgeable.
A big thank you to Audrey (head concierge) and her team for taking care of our restaurant bookings - all recommendations were exactly what we were looking for, nothing was too much trouble.
Can't comment on the breakfast as we preferred to have a coffee in the port - 3 meals a day would have been too much.

I've been in Marseilles for two night to meet a doctor. The hotel building is located in the port area of the city what is not very central. It's very huge and look like a palace, but when you get in on it it's very new and modern! The inside pool is nice and the restaurant is great. The only point of this hotel is that you will need a car every time, once it's not locate in the central area of the city.

We are glad to read that you enjoyed the hotel, the building, the restaurant...

Concerning our location, we are in the central area of the city, at a very short walking distance from the Vieux-Port (3 minutes) and all commodities. Many thanks

We hope to see you soon.

Kind regards,

We were on a long road trip last summer, driving from north to south of France, mostly staying at B&Bs, some were even chateaus- just the vacation we dreamt of! However, we were exhausted as we got closer to Marseille, we felt the need for a couple nights of luxury. It could not have been any better than InterContinental! They were very nice to give us a room for the same day, the staff was both professional and friendly, location was spectacular, the lobby was impressive, and most importantly (for me anyways) smelled so nice that we knew we were at the right place!

Our was I think a standard room, quite larger than what we expected, he bathroom was very well designed, bed was super comfortable with amazing pillows, so overall a pleasant experience.

Concierge helped us a great deal with both evening plans in the city, and day trips to near by towns for swimming.

Breakfast was average, but we did not care, since everything else was wonderful.

Highly recommended if you are ever in Marseille.

A truly beautiful hotel, with large, well thought out and well appointed rooms in a perfect location in Marseille. Appears to me to be too big for the city luxury hotel market (because make no mistake, this is a solid 5 star) but that is a problem for intercontinental, not for travellers.
