“Incredible hotel - loved it”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

The Mama Shelter is an absolutely fantastic hotel, the designs are quirky, colourful, fun yet stylish and chic. The rooms are kitted out with the latest Apple TVs, comfortable beds. Restaurant/Bar have a wonderful atmosphere and yet again, incredible design features that just keep surprising. If you're driving, it's not the easiest place to find/navigate around - but they have a multistory safe car park under the hotel. Staff are extremely friendly and can give great advice on things to do/see/eat in Marseille. Would definitely recommend and am looking forward to visiting the Paris and Istanbul Mama Shelter sometime soon!

3-night stay at Marseille Mama Shelter and although I loved the friendly service I wished the rooms were larger and set up differently. We had a room on the 6th floor facing the road side and the windows were slanted toward the bed. This made walking behind the bed impossible. The rooms on other floors do not seem to have this problem.
The room was also VERY hot in the dead of winter. We tried turning the air on but it was not working during the winter. Had to leave the window open to be able to breath.
We found ourself walking to the Port area many times because the businesses around the hotel were closed for the holiday.
If I had it to do over again I would probably find an option closer to the port or panier.

First place whilst our ten-days trip through this area where everything was great!

The service was absolutely friendly, attentive and effective.

We absolutely recommend the pizzas from the restaurant!
Breakfast had great variety and quality, such as the drinks at the bar.

Our room was small but stylish and futuristic, maybe too far from the common taste or too modern for some people (answering to some other posts here).

Thanks for the great stay!

First thing - the checkin staff are amazing, so refreshing to be served quickly and with a smile. I wished the checkin staff new more about where to shop though.

I loved the location, in a neighbourhood with cool restaraunts bars and real people going about their everyday lives. 15 mins walk to shopping, old port, metro closeby gets you around fast and easily.

the restaraunt is lively and you eat well, rooms have everything you need, are clean and nice clean new linens.

Good room, the extra large, with lots of space. Beds were very comfortable, a little warm, so ask for a single sheet if you need it. Staff at the front desk were endlessly helpful - getting us in for brunch on a fully booked Sunday and making reservations for bouillabaisse later that week. Neighbourhood is great, with some very artistic shops and felt very safe too.
Only concerns were the tiny bathroom with the door that could not be closed if you didn't squeeze up against the toilet - hey there architects ever heard of the pocket door? And the kitchen space, not a mug, spoon or pot in sight and yet a kettle, microwave and a two burner hot plate. And the fridge is filled with stuff you don't want that costs, but no prices. And no room for the milk I wanted to store in it.

Room Tip: Book ahead if you can and get a better rate.

Very cool, very clean and awesome value hotel. Front desk staff (esp German lady) were all great and v helpful. Wait staff in restaurant not as good...it does get very busy in there.
Definitely a different experience to so much else in Marseille, but as we were only in town for 2 days we did find the location a little inconvienient. The value for money, cleanliness and uber cool design all made up for it though. Great big rooms, nicely airconditioned and a very good and quiet night sleep.

I spent one night in this art deco hotel in the middle of Marseilles and was impressed by its coziness..the bed is so comfy and clean, nice cushions and wonderful sheets; modern bathroom, spacious room although shape was a bit funny--long and L-shaped...the TV screen nice and big, table tastefully located and two silver lamp stands next to bed..where you can also use for a book or glass of water. When you enter the Lobby, it looks like an art GALLERY--with a colorful set of magazines on a wooden long table and a very colorful chair in a corner...there are funny looking balloons on the restaurant ceiling--after the Reception...and the sitting area by the reception has a funny back rest...very artsy. An added feature is the private parking (17 euros per night) at the basement--which is great considering that the streets are so narrow around the area for parking to be safe, sand even available.
On top of all, service is very good--the staff very nice.
The only down side is the not so great neighborhood--which makes the hotel an oaisis in the area....but its safe to walk even late...towards the old port....walking distance, 15 minutes.

Room Tip: Upper floor
