“Fantastic hotel, Fab location and lovely furniture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2009

We spent a couple of nights there last summer and we had a beautiful double room facing the square, with high windows. We loved the taste of the furniture and the breakfast room, all very cosy and clean. This 2 star hotel is great value for money only 5 minutes walk from the Vieux Port and 2 minutes from the Canebiere. Highly recommended, we will stay there again if we go back to Marseille.

While i was aware that this was a budget hotel- it was indeed very basic. the only plus points it had was its location for sight seeing., and the staff were ok. we had a room next to the reception from which you could hear every conversation and people at breakfast. The room was clean but the furniture could be doing with being replaced and the bed was most uncomfortable - not that we had much chance to sleep with the volume of noise that went on outside all night. There is a bar next door which is frequented by men all day and night who constantly shouted to people in another bar up ther road. vans and car horns went all night too. sorry but although not the hotel from hell must be the worst i have stayed in!!!

I spent 3 hours looking for a hotel and found some for 20 euros with bugs, and some for 140 euros a night. I'm a very poor traveler so I can't afford fancy places. I came to Hotel St. Louis by coincidence after collapsing twice outside. The staff was EXTREMELY helpful.

They were full that night so they helped me find another place, but I came back the next night. The rooms are really beautiful and they look as if they have been redone recently, without loosing any of its genuine charm and French architecture.

The staff was so friendly on everything from laundry, internet connection problems (they helped me fix my computer) to even tell me a bout Marseille. They gave me a map and sat down with me for 5 minutes to explain places I had to go and what buses to take.

Sadly I was only able to stay one night because I don't have money, but I have every intention of returning when I come back to Marseille with better money. Of the last 2 months of travelling from hostel to hotel to couch, this hotel had the best staff, cleanest room, best internet connection, and most accommodating stay.

Ok, let me prepare you all for simply the greatest budget hotel i have ever, ever stayed at! Now, i am a highly critical, negative person and rarely enthusiastic and i loved every part of it.
Its character, its charm, its price, its location, its cleanliness, its staff helpfulness and its pretty much everything were so far beyond the general standard of what you usually get when you pay that price.

Please, if youre going to marseille stay here. Not only is it affordable, but id prefer to stay here than a 5star hotel, cause you really just dont get enough for your dollar at a 5 star hotel not to stay at this charming little place.

  • Liked — Character of the place
  • Disliked — You had to climb stairs to get to reception and my ankle was injured so it did make things a little hard.

Great hotel, nicely located such that you can walk to the main sights. One of the receptionists recommended a place for dinner that was the highlight of our stay, which we are grateful for.

Nice room, the only thing lacking perhaps was a rug on the floor (the tiles were a bit cold).
Was lovely to sit on the balcony one afternoon enjoying a beer and watching the people out in the square in front.

I wouldn't advise getting the breakfast which is ok but overpriced for what you get.

We spent a few days in Hotel Saint Louis with my wife. The experience was very nice. The reception staff is warm and easy to talk with : they gave us good tips about the city and the places to go (restaurants, visits...). Basically, it is the kind of hotel you feel like at home. I think they have done some works, but anyway it looks new and the bed is good : I wish I could have one like this at home!

We selected this hotel because of its excellent location - very close to Canebiere, and a short walk to the Vieux Port. In most respects it is a perfectly adequate 2-star hotel - once you enter it. But to enter it, you must drag your luggage up 21 steps, a fact not mentioned in any reviews I checked or in the hotel description. The hotel, and the elevator, begin on what Europeans call the first floor, i.e., one flight up. When we checked in in the afternoon, only the desk clerk was on duty, and no one was available to help with luggage. The same was true when we checked out in the morning. Therefore I would recommend this hotel only to the young and able-bodied, or those traveling light.
