A clean, quiet and nice hotel very near the old port. Not the best brekfast, but ner a lot of good places to eat. If you don't want to spend all your mony in accomondation but want a nice and good sleep it's the hotel to chose.

The only reason that hotel is worth staying is because you are in the centre of Marseille and you don't need to take any public transport to do things.

However, there is a continuous smell of cigarette in both parts of the hotel and ... let's start...

room 1: sixth floor, very strong smoke scent and when we switched the "air-con" it was a massive fan with an helicopter sound... extremely bare minimum (1 bed, 1 table, 1 stool) and 2 windows and 2 doors to soundproof the room... No thanks!

room 2 (the last one with a double bed): first floor in the old building (street level), light smoke scent, real air-con working. Double windows again, but with an additional electric panel to bloke the sunlight and a thick curtain (even a vampire could stay here, good), single door but an handicap shower room (why not) When I took my shower I realised that the water wasn't disappearing and was building a bit too much. The whole room was filled with a thick layer of water that was crippling in the bedroom. I pulled the drain and discovered dirt, hair and more things that i could describe and as soon as I did that the water drained in seconds... tasty...

Even though I made more trips to the reception that anyone would accept, the staff has always been wonderful, helpful and kind. They know Marseille like the back of their hand and guided us over the map like the tourism office would do...

I'm writing from the room, hoping that we'll survive the night. If anything else goes wrong you'll be the first one to know...

Room Tip: Check the room as much as you can before setteling...

This hotel was dirty but Marseille doesn't offer a whole lot in terms of accommodation unless you want to spend Ritz-prices on something. The room was old, small, and bare minimum but it was cheap, what could you expect. The lobby is deceptively nice in comparison to the rest of the building. I don't think smoking is allowed but it sure smelled like it. nice TVs though, so I guess that's something.

Etap Hotel in Marseille is rather basic but very well thought through hotel. The room is small but very clean and up to date. The linen were clean and bathroom spotless. The location couldn't be better...city center is just a few steps away, port with it's lovely markets is across the street and the big shopping mall is just a few blocks away. And of course free wifi that is so convenient during travels. The only comment I would add is the noise at night. If you like to sleep with a window open this might be a difficult night. Nevertheless I would definitively stay there again!

The hotel had recently been refurbished and is clean and tastefully decorated. Staff were friendly and helpful and the location is great for tourists - a short walk from the Old Port and the Metro.

Rooms overlooking the square can be a bit noisy and you need to bring a hairdrier!

Service - good.
Value - excellent, we got a cheap deal online.
Sleep Quality - excellent. Comfortable beds with quiet rooms.
Cleanliness - fine.
Location - a couple of minutes walk to Vieux Port and the metro station.
Rooms - the renovated rooms had a nice, simple design with everything we needed. Large TV available. Rooms were a bit stuffy so had to open the windows. Reception lobby had a funny smell but you don't pass through there for long.

Travel tips - be careful about personal belongings at Marseille station, especially at night. Take a daytrip to Aix-En-Provence (45 mins bus trip from Marseille station).

Overall impression - good, comfortable basic rooms to stay at for a couple of days. Will stay here again in the future if we can get a similar online deal.
