Beautiful view, full of history and tradition. Definitely a must see. The viewing deck is breathtaking, although le Mistral may blow you around a bit.

Amazing view of Marseilles, really worth a visit for that alone. You can see the whole city from up there, and it is truly a sight to behold.
The cathedral itself is impressive from the outside, but quite simple on the inside. If you skip going inside you wouldn't miss much, but it is definitely worth going up there for the view and for an up close look at the amazing Statue of Mary.

The basilica itself is cosy, not to grand inside, hence the crowds are manageable (no queues).

Great views of the city and surrounding. We walked back to Port Vieux.

This basilica is one of the most beautiful we've ever seen! It is set on top of a hill (you can take a cheap bus ride from Vieux Port, and the ticket is round-trip if you are within an hour or so) and as you climb higher around the outside of the church, you get the most amazing views of Marseille and the sea. It's amazing and worth visiting Marseille for this alone. Beware, though, when we went it was a lovely sunny April afternoon, and it was incredibly windy! Good thing they have rails, or I might have been knocked off my feet several times!

The basilica is a must do for the gorgeous views of the city even if you don't see the inside of the church. This is the highest point in the city and thus you are able to see the port and all surroundings. Excellent opportunity to take pictures of the port and the city. You can reach the basilica walking from the port but it will take 30 approx. with very steep hills to walk. I strongly recommend taking a taxi (about 10€) or bus #60 that takes you directly from the port. This is a must do if you are in Marseille.
