We were in Marseille and did not know what to do. Drove up to the Basilique (imagine quite a hike by foot - there seemed to be a bus service as well). Firstly was impressed that the parking was free and well laid out. (Parking fees wind me up - so this was a positive.)
The views of Marseille are really very impressive - not such much in 'glamour' but gives great perspective and very varied. Across the old harbour, out to sea, back over the 'OM' football stadium to the hills beyond.
The Basilique itself is also very pleasant. Loverly mosaics inside - and some of the alcoves covered with paintings. Quite unusual in that not of religious theme but boats/ships etc reflection the 'protection' provided to the seafarers of Marseille. Was different and interesting.
If in Marseille - would definitely recommend.
